I swapped details, but I believed he gave me a fake phone number.  We both drove to a safe position, and he drove further down the road, so I never actually got a picture of his car. I had never been in an accident before, so I know this was my mistake. However, as he admitted it at the time, I didn't think I would have an issue, and I also had a witness.  I spoke to my witness around 2 months later, and they told me the insurance company spoke to her on the phone and they were going to send her a form in the post, which at the time she said she never got.  I never claimed for injury, just repair of my car. It's been over 2 years since I had 2 new phones since then, so I doubt I'll even have her phone number. The insurance company should have this as well as her address if they sent her a form.    The insurance company fixed my car, and I thought this was an end to the matter.  I now had a letter saying the third party's insurance company has asked for evidence to prove his client was involved in the accident and they not been able to contact my witness.   I'm shocked, as it's now been over 2 years. Why now? Should I report it to the police?  If I can't provide any evidence now, will I be forced to pay for the repair? All I had was a dashcam showing this person indicating to go left, and then a bang to my car around 20 seconds later. I never had a rear dashcam.   Motoring discussion JOJOJ Motoring discussion http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198125 http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198125&v=t&m=1486540 Honda CR-V - Suggested price for CR-V 2009 automatic (macbook) hjforum1486539 Sat, 04 May 2024 18:01:36 +0000 Can I ask how much you paid for your CR-V? Is petrol 2009 like mine? My rims are also 17” with high profile tyres (All season Good Year Vector 4 gen 3), but the ride is quiet harsh. The tyres pressure 2.1 bar as per label on Honda frame. It’s drives nice and and can feel solid steering, just the suspension feels for me hard, as I can feel every road ruggedness and holes. I even thought to replace the springs to get more soft and comfy ride, but I learned from the above comments this will be waste of money, if decide to sell the car in near future., as this. not bring much value and nobody will pay for it except me. The only modern car I would consider to buy (petrol, automatic) it would be Mazda CX-30 Skyactive G. Mine is a EX with just about every extra that was available. I had a major 100,000 service done when I got her changing all fluids etc and my trusted mechanic told me she was in excellent condition with negligible corrosion. I’ve just had her serviced again after 9,000 trouble free miles and hope for another year of trouble free motoring. You’ve got one of the best cars out there, if the body is solid you should get at least another five years out of her. I’d keep her; you have stress free motoring with proper instrumentation and controls and a proper ignition key, none of this nonsense of keyless entry. You won’t have to go through the trauma of waking up to find some thief has stolen your modern car as the thief’s ignore the older CRVs. I would have to be deranged to sell my car and get something more modern because the CRV does everything I need and more. It drives well, I get well over 30 mpg and I have adaptive cruise control, emergency braking etc etc and those lovely 17” wheels that float over the pot holes. Go on YouTube and see what Scotty Kilmer has to say about the older CRVs, he recommends them. In the last seven months I've spent more than its market value on maintenance - service, MOT, rocker cover oil leak, immobiliser repair and two new front wheel bearings. The car's value hasn't increased, all it means is should I sell it then it's saleable.   That's just life, running any vehicle is expensive. Old car = repairs, new car = depreciation or monthlies.   It's also worth remembering the old saying that something is only worth what someone else is prepared to pay. The valuation to the owner is unfortunately irrelevant. Look on Autotrader or similar sites to see what other cars are going for.     Motoring discussion Xileno Motoring discussion http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198121 http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198121&v=t&m=1486526 Honda CR-V - Suggested price for CR-V 2009 automatic (macbook) hjforum1486522 Sat, 04 May 2024 11:30:40 +0000 No the advisories was just now April 2024. The previous MOT April 2023, there was no any advisories, and this has inspected in the same garage, is it frame suddenly corroded significantly by1 year? I don’t think so. I have planned to inspect this in May, and see if this is just surface rust, which I believe it is, as there is plenty of CR-Vs with the same age or older, here in UK as well as in much harsher weather like Canada and Some USA states, and there is plenty of people still happy with the car and did not see plenty of people complaining about frame corrosion. Besides one garage will advise the frame is corroded and fail the MOT, where other says it’s surface corrosion, and the frame structure is not affected. The number of people, the number of different options, that’s the conclusion. The wife not liking it would not be a good enough reason. I would tend to agree, but going by various other threads including SLO's, it isn't a universally shared view! Sub-frame corroded but not seriously weakened. In April 2025 that could be an MOT failure which would probably mean sc***ping a 16 year old car. Its not an advisory I would want to see on a car I was buying. My assumption on this would be that it is just surface rust, which wouldn't alarm me too much (though I would get under the car and check thoroughly). But I could see this advisory scaring off many potential buyers, so it seems inexplicable to me that the OP (who seems to be either a mechanic or at least mechanically minded) has chosen to ignore it. Given it was noted in the 2023 MOT (if I'm reading the thread right) and the OP has spent quite a lot of money, including on superficial and unnecessary stuff like diamond cut alloys, surely spending a little time under the car with a wire brush and a modest sum of money on some kind protective coating would be worthwhile (especially since the original intention was to keep the car longer term)? Or alternatively if I went to see a car that the buyer had spent quite a bit of money on in a relatively short ownership I would be asking myself why sell it? The wife not liking it would not be a good enough reason. Look at WBAC or other buyer price and add a margin that you might trim later on in a haggle with a potential buyer It also works the other way. Clever buyers will be putting your reg into WBAC to see what is being offered. They will then be negotiating as close to that figure as possible. Its just the same as we did in the 70's and 80's using Parkers guide off the newsagents rack. Think Parkers guide still exists but the last time I looked you have use the interweb and pay. Last couple of private sales I have made (using Autotrader) I simply looked for near identical cars (not difficult since both were Micra's) and priced ours a few pounds below those. I think this quite normal for this 15 years old car, or am I wrong and the liefespan of this car going to be end sooner or later? I'm very regret that to sell the car, as I spent a lot of money and my work. I planned to keep the car for like 5 years at least, but my wife don't like to keep the car as she think is old and has outfashion look. The car including listed all above mainatance cost me around £6500 in total, and I did all work myself as mechanic, otherwise the labor cost would be extra money for garage costs. What price should I looking for ? Is the only year and millage important, I think the other car with the same year and millage could be in much worse condition and may need a maintenance work to get the tip top condition like mine. Best regards to everyone. It depends upon the pairing of the wheel and tyre, especially the tyre sidewall height.  My neighbour has a KIA Picanto, the i10's sister car, and it has 15in wheels, which means the tyre sidewall is likely 12mm (or between 10-15%) less than that of a similar car with 14in rims. The extra air cushioning will help improve ride quality over the lower profile tyre versions.  The downside is that there will be a small loss in handling ability, though going one wheel size (1 inch) down rarely makes a huge difference in that regard, especially at legal speeds that are safely achievable for the car. Going up or down (if possible) by two inches on the wheel may well make a discernable difference - good or bad. Have a look at the HJ reviews section for any car you might consider, and they (alongside Owner reviews on the site) hopefully will give some indication what each sub-model may be like to drive in terms of comfort as well as handling. If you're going to do driving on local / urban roads and performance and handling isn't so much of a concern, then having a car with smaller wheels and higher profile tyres that help improve ride quality is often of benefit, especially on today's poorly-surfaced roads. Going that way can also help reduce costs, given higher profile tyres generally last longer than lower profile ones, are less susceptible to damage from potholes, as are their matching wheels, because the rims are further away from the road.  Their extra 'air cushioning' also takes some load off the suspension, which will this last longer. It's also likely that such tyre types cost less, often quite a lot if they are a 'common' size, than less common / lower profile ones.  It likely does mean looking at generally lower spec cars, but only going for the minimum spec you need will mean you'll be able to afford a newer example and/or one that is in better condition. All in all, it could save you a good few £000 (maybe more) over an ownership period.  Worth considering with money so tight and significantly inflated costs at the moment. How do you hit max rpm in top on speed  restricted roads? You can however, hit max rpm in lower gears whilst staying below the speed limit ...   No, I understand that (and do this), but what about the higher gears?  Otherwise we may as well just thrash it 'safely' in 2nd.  The problem, as you rightly say, is maxing it out it top gear means significantly breaking the speed limit and very well driving in a dangerous manner. Rather an expensive exercise if getting fined or needing to go for a 'track day' or legally find an accommodating former airbase with its runway intact! I do remember an episode of Fifth Gear when they were testing products that claimed to boost engine performance and efficiency, and the 1990s VW Corrado a 'flat spot' on its acceleration curve, but was mostly 'cured' and returned to near new performance by relatively cheap things, a decent fuel additive (and just running it normally for a week) being the most cost-effective. Probably worth doing once or twice a year as well as the Italian tune-up for people who mostly do motoring in slow-speed, busy roads. You don't mention the age or model, and getting a 'matching' door sounds like a neat solution, especially if you aren't too bothered about a perfect colour match.  Hopefully any replacement door will be electronically compatible with your car - a possible problem which having your door repaired should not face. You need professional advice. And the 'postage' for a whole door might be more than the cost of collecting in person, which would be a safer prospect if it's not too far away.
