What to watch out for

01-01-0001:

Report of failed parking brake lever ratchet.

In very cold weather, the rear wash/wipe tends to fail, blowing the fuse for all wipers including the front screen wipers and washers.

If Exhaust System Emissions Warning light comes on it may be due to a faulty cam sensor.

22-03-2012:

Apparent (not very believable) non-existence of replacement catalytic converters for 1.4s in France due to production of Fox having ended. Apparently, no fresh supplies until end of 2012. Cannot be true?

23-06-2012:

Manual gearbox failures quite common at around 6 years old.

26-04-2015:

Electric window cables prone to snapping after 5-6 years.

01-09-2015:

Erratic running of 2006 VW Fox 3-cylinder 1.2 reported. Intermittently loses power. Local garage checked it with diagnostics and found no faults. No warning lights had been displayed. In checking the engine the garage fitted a new CAM sensor. A few days later the 'Exhaust emissions' light was on, colour orange. Another garage inspection showed no faults. The garage suggested an Autolec check which they duly arranged. Prior to this check the vehicle started losing power then juddering. RAC Breakdown Service ran diagnostics and picked up an error in the ignition coil, cylinder one. A new coil was fitted and the car seemed fine. Later that day the vehicle started losing and gaining power, orange light back on. Autolec checking suggested a problem with the chain timing but this is 'spot on' according to the garage. In subsequent driving the 'Exhaust emissions' light is displaying orange once more. Suspect carbing up of the inlet valves which is common on this engine used foe short runs on low grade 'premium' petrol.
