Fiesta automatic choke 30 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Fiesta 1.4 with Weber TLD carb. I think my automatic choke has failed, (difficult starting but no problem when running or starting from hot). Am I right in thinking the choke butterfly should be seen to be closed when the engine is cold (with air filter cover removed) ? Mine remains firmly open. -

First 'service' 11 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Just booked my Volvo XC90 in for it's first service, 3k or 3 month job. Turns out it's not a service as such, just a look over. I'm told the first time it gets a 'proper' service is 12k or a year. Is this the norm these days, and if so can it be good for a new engine to run 12k on the factory oil -
Cooling system pressure 2 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Can the experts out there (=in here) say whether there is anything for or against venting the cooling system 10 mins after stopping a hot engine, to purge most of the 'air' above the coolant? Seems to me that the running pressure would then be slightly lower, presumably a good thing? There would -

Pre-oil change treatment - paraffin 8 Mar 2004 (Forum)
It has been strongly recommended by somebody who knows that prior to an oil change you should put a litre of paraffin in the engine and run it a bit (20 miles, say). Just as effective as those more expensive treatments, and far cheaper. Any views? Urban myth or top tip? -
Road Tax fine (or not) 29 Feb 2004 (Forum)
My road tax runs out today and I intend to renew it tomorrow. However I have been told today that if you do not renew by midnight an automatic fine is sent out. Is this correct? If so I only have myself to blame but I thought you would at least get a few days grace?! -

Golf VR6 engine smoother in damp ?? 11 Sep 2003 (Forum)
It could be my imagination but it seems like my 97 VR6 engine runs smoother & picks up speed better in damp conditions. It pulls well anyway but there does seem to be an improvement in the wet. Any ideas as to a potential technical reason for this or is it just a "fluke" ( or my imagination -

Hi, I have a renault clio 1.4rt 1994 model & when it is running as the revs get to around 2000rpm the engine seems to die. But if the accelerator is pressed the engine responds. The only things I think the problem could be is either the throttle stepper motor or the throttle position sensor. Any -
Type of Oil 30 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Time for an oil change on my Seat Toledo. Its a 1996 GT 16v (engine from a golf mark 2) Is it worth my while running it on synthetic/semi synthetic? I am aware that sometimes this can damage the engine (particular seals) for some types of cars. It's done 60k miles. Any insights welcome! -

After 2 years of trouble free motoring in my Primera SRi I need a larger load carrier as a result of 2 small children. I want a large, well made, reliable, cheap to run estate/MPV. It also has to be as good to drive as the Primera and as quick. Max budget 5K plus trade-in. -

Stolen/Recovered Cars 27 Mar 2002 (Forum)
What is the general opinion of stolen/recovered and salvage cars? Are there any circumstances under which they make a good buy for the average private buyer, e.g. if a car with 'light panel damage' was bought, repaired and run until the end of its useful life (thereby avoiding a difficult resale -
Jump starting 19 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I think this may have been covered before, but can anyone advise me of the dangers of using jump leads and ECUs. I recently used a Micra to jump start another car and it later refused to start, and now runs badly. What could be the likely trouble? The hand book and workshop manuals detail
