I have recently changed my fuel filter on my 03 Plate 2l TDCI Mondeo, since I have changed it the engine has started spluttering, Fuel consumption has considerably dropped and there is excessive white smoke coming from the exhaust. • Mondeo TDCi fuel filter change - Q? 8 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Hi, I am thinking of changing the fuel filter myself because it is due though a full service is not yet due, the filter is easy to change, it clips in and has quick release pipe fittings, also the system is self bleeding though I dont want to crank the engine to get the air through, how about
  • The gross costs of fuel taxation. 6 Dec 2006 (Forum)
http://img.thisismoney.co.uk/calculators/calcPetrol.html (are the tax rates current?) and don't forget, the annual fuel bill is shown as net, so grossing up is required. I cover about 40 000 miles per annum in/on various vehicles, averaging about 25 mpg. At a marginal tax/NI rate of 41%, I
  • Avoiding using the wrong fuel 22 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Despite colour codes and different size nozzles etc, it's pretty obvious that passive methods of avoiding using the wrong fuel on forecourts aren't working. What leads to the worse consequences - putting petrol in a diesel car, or diesel in a petrol car? I am looking for a used car - but there's
  • Crude oil Price V Pump fuel price 24 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Plucking some average figures out the air, for today, crude oil is $75 a barrel and fuel at the pump is £1 a litre. I can't do the maths but if oil went to $150 a barrel what would that do to the pump price of fuel? I appreciate that it wouldn't double as well, obviously! One pundit/doomster
  • Water in fuel (intentionally) 31 Jan 2006 (Forum)
From Freedom-motors' FAQ on their rotary engine. I'm intrigued, especially about the last sentence... >How can you expect an increase in power by adding water to diesel fuel? >Answer: Adding water results in further cooling of the incoming charge. The addition of water to diesel, gasoline
  • Short measures at fuel station. 10 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Tired and unemotional I stuck £20 of fuel in the Picasso late on Sunday night. A few miles down the road I noticed the gauge had hardly gone up at all - Even less that I expected with fuel at these astronomical prices [before anyone says it]. Just how common is it that a pump delivers a short

  • Summer/Winter Fuel Consumtion 23 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I know that the consumption readouts from on-board computers are not necessarily that accurate but I would have expected that cold weather and low temperatures would have improved my indicated fuel consumption. The fact is that, regularly driving the same 15 mile route in the same manner, my fuel
  • "Fuel Trim Limit" code 17 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Volvo V70R The 'engine management light' came on earlier in the week, had it investigated and the code came up as "Long term fuel trim limit". The light was extinguished by garage (two days ago). Anyway, today the light has come on again, so I'll need to take it back. Does anyone know what
  • Clio Erratic Fuel Gauge 18 Apr 2003 (Forum)
My wife's 1400cc Clio Rt Auto 1994 has an erratic Fuel Gauge. It seems to read high even when only half full. At other times it remains high on the needle until the 'Low Fuel' light comes on then it drops. I have checked the float mechanism that has differential springs top & bottom biased
  • Petrol v Diesel v Dual Fuel 12 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Is there a quick rule of thumb formula for working out when it becomes more economic to go for a specific type of car. (Thinking high mileage) Diesels cost more, but do they depreciate less? Some petrol engines are very fuel efficient and not that far away from diesels. Will dual fuel always

  • fuel additive - miracle or scam? 19 Mar 2013 (Forum)
This sort of thing crops up from time to time and was mentioned in HJ's letters page a few years back.  It's a miracle fuel additive that improves consumption and engine life. It claims to "dissolve water".  I'll leave it to the more technically accomplished forum members
