  • Is it OK to drive weak clutch? Golf mk4 3 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I've got a Golf mark 4 GTI 1.8T. My clutch is 'weak' aparantly, it's very hard to get it into 1st and reverse (physically it's very stiff). I'm wondering if I should be not driving the car before I get the new clutch fitted in case it damages something else like the gearbox or something
  • Regular driving tests 10 May 2005 (Forum)
The "Tonight with Trevor McDonald" programme last night discussed the subject of yearly driving tests for those over 70. A large proportion of accidents are the result of the lack of experience and wisdom (not increased reaction times), which means the younger and/or less experienced driver. I
  • Driving without lights 5 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I've lost count of the number of cars I have had to flash over the last 3 weeks who have been driving along with no lights at about 5 6 pm. Some of them have clearly gone quite a distance from any parking area and even when flashed they seem to have no idea why. Do these drivers never look
  • Erratic driving. 17 Jan 2020 (Forum)
With all the anti older drivers attitude most of us who are senior drivers take our driving seriously and practise good habits. I saw a guy with superb car control the other day, he was weaving in and out and avoiding other cars by inches at high speed, tailgating 'til the offending car got out

  • Bad Driving - Overtaking past road furniture in carriageway 29 May 2016 (Forum)
For the 3rd time in the past few months  I have had cars  and 1 van overtake me and pass the refuge in the middle in the opposing  carriageway (fortunately empty at the time) in various places on 3 different occasions. This must go down as dangerous driving, surely!
  • Driving position 8 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Which current small cars give a high driving position. I know the large MPV's do but I want something smaller. I have been considering the Venga/ix20, which, although I haven't driven, presume they do have a highish position. I am just interested in what other options are out
  • any - insurance claim 18 Nov 2012 (Forum)
my sister has had her claim rejected because she was not wearing her glasses when driving, even though her sight is good and she can read the numberplate at the correct distance because she had not noticed the caveat on her driving licence that says she must wear glasses when driving.
  • Cars famous people drive 26 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Eric Morecambe drove a Rolls-Royce, but Ernie Wise drove a Saab. So too did Ian Botham, Raymond Baxter and Queen Beatrix of Holland. All over the world, from intellectuals to farmers, people loved Saabs for their shape, safety and sheer character. Just wondering who drives what today?
  • Good driving? 14 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I've just seen this http://uk.cars.yahoo.com/10122010/36/bus-driver-shrugs-snowy-hill-0.html Is this skillful driving, or was it the bus that made it look easy? The wheels did slip in places
  • VW Polo - HJ driving one handed 22 Aug 2010 (Forum)
As an avid reader of HJ's road tests and Telegraph column I enjoyed the polo 1.2TSI video. I was a little surprised though to see him drive the whole time one handed with his left hand presumably resting on the gear lever. Not good practice surely ?
  • Driving test examiner sues for whiplash 19 Feb 2009 (Forum)
A driving examiner is suing for damages after claiming he was hurt by the worst learner driver he has ever seen. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/edinburgh_and_east/7895353.stm?lss A current case so I guess no comments directly about it until the case is resolved.
  • Driving through puddles. 4 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Driving through puddles - is it: o - A good thing, 'cos it washes muck off the underneath of the car; o - A bad thing, 'cos it leads to a build-up of muck under the car. Hm? I'd tend to go for the former, especially if it's been raining enough to wash all the flippin' salt off the road
  • driving in France 9 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Is it OK to drive car registered in my husband's name in France. I have insurance documents in my name. We are divorcing and he says I cannot take my car abroad which was originally registered by him when we bought it 4 years ago. He says he can report me to the police. Meg

  • Driving to Tarn 19 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I fancy a family camping holiday in Tarn next summer. Ideally we would be arriving in Normandy on a Saturday evening, overnighting around Alencon then aiming for Millau the next day. Bearing in mind that this would be the 22nd / 23rd of July -is this likely to be a drive from Hell? OK - I just
  • Driving in Europe 18 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I?m about to take a few driving holidays to France and Holland and wondered if it?s still worth applying headlight adjusters? What are the chances of getting stopped if I just use the load adjuster and set it to the lowest position? It seems a bit uneconomical to have to apply fresh adjusters
