Hi, I'm in a dilema and would really appreciate some knowledgable help. We are buying an estate for the 1st time and the only one we really like is a bmw. The 318 seems to suit our needs. We have been to see one which is a 54 plate (old shape) with 81,000. FSH -

Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - Cambelt replacement costs. 14 Apr 2011 (Forum)
My car (in December) will be four years old and I have just booked it in for its second variable service, although the onboard 'computer' says about another 100 days but I don't want it going into the garage in the cold December months. However the main dealers have quoted me a grand £360 -
Parking outside school 11 Oct 2010 (Forum)
is not to bad and the yellow line seems to work, cars park further away and on side streets for example. But in the rain today the pavement outside school was full of cars parked mainly on the pavement, leaving about a third of a pavement width. As if this wasn't enough to make me cross, my 4 year old -

Am not mechanically minded, educated guesses sought, please. I have a Signum 1.9 (120) diesel. 56 plate with 54k on the clock. Had the EGR valve replaced yesterday at cost of £217. The mechanic showed me the old valve which was clearly caked in carbon. The HJ review -
Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 96 1.6 Auto - Died, now won't start 1 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Hi hope someone can offer some advice, my mrs bought this car a few days ago and it has died already! Obviously it is quite an old motor but it looked in great condition, was an older disabled ladies car and she seemed very genuine, so I was quite surprised that this has happened. She -
Learner driver - must it be ins. group 1 only? 9 Jul 2009 (Forum)
My missus's old Saab is on its last legs - big repairs likely to come up in the next 6 months, and because my son's now 17 and we want him to learn to drive, we're thinking of the scrappage and getting a new small-engined runabout, rather than a more direct replacement for the saab. My question -
happy new year from oz 26 Jan 2009 (Forum)
anyway. This despite the presence of many old and new V8 engined cars and utes with fruity aftermarket exhausts. The Aussies like their cars. I have been driving my SiL's deadpan high-mileage Daewoo. a bit foxed around the edges but fingers crossed still OK. In the Blue Mountains the other day the car -
Honda Jazz/Fit (2001 - 2008) - 03 1.4 Fading of Red Paintwork 12 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Now I know that red cars do fade, so I'm not disappointed or angry. Also, I thought this had been covered in previous posts but couldn't find anything on a search. So, our 5 year old Jazz in Monaco Red (solid colour) has slight fading of its paintwork on the front edge of the bonnet and on the roof -
European Breakdown Cover 24 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Just been looking at the recent post, 'Breakdown cover, too much choice!' Made me look at Europ Assist as the premium looked good for european cover. My car now 10 yrs old and quoted at £85, against the £135 from Green Flag for annual cover. However just come up with major problem if you DIY -

Small accident, disputing agreed value of 'classic' 15 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I slightly bumped the back of a 27 year old "classic" VW Beetle. The rusty bumper bent as well as the one of the bumper supports. Speaking, later, to the VW owner, it transpires there is lots of damage, including: engine lid, rear valence, fan, whole exhaust system, bumper, bumper supports -
What defines a 'modern classic'? 3 Sep 2007 (Forum)
-old unpopular car with a propensity for rust and 'unreliable dodgy suspension'. The cognoscenti, of course, declare that it's a 'modern classic' - and indeed I'd like to think it is! Maybe the car needs to appear in a ' Life on Mars '-type serial to have any chance of more widespread appeal -
Reliable cars? Seems not 5 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Bumped into an old friend of mine today whom I had not met for several years. Years ago he ran a garage and was one of the best 'body men' I knew. Bad health and family problems led him to give up the business and last I heard he was driving a lorry doing recovery work. Today I discovered he has -
