Nissan Qashqai (2007 - ) - DPFs again 26 Sep 2008 (Forum)
A colleague has a year-old car that yesterday lit up the DPF light. Colleague looked in handbook, which apparently says "you must drive at 50mph" but doesn't specify any duration (put yourself in the mind of a non-technical person here). She managed to touch 50 on the way home (there was traffic -

Car decisions for my niece 22 Sep 2007 (Forum)
, and then buy again when the C2 has 60 to 70k, or starts to cause more problems. I feel that the alternator was the cause of most of her woes and that is now fixed - there is no reason why the car shouldn't be 100% reliable. Any thoughts? I did suggest she seriously looks at new cars that may give a low to 0 -
Engine tweaking: a dying art? 2 Jul 2007 (Forum)
that fettles engines in a mechanical way, not just by chipping, without charging more than the cost of a new engine? I have been wondering about this for some time. Cars and Car Conversions, an old favourite of mine, doesn't seem to exist these days. -

. Car was recovered by VW Assist and taken to my local main agent, who called this afternoon to say they have ordered a new engine for me. Apparently, the drive for the oil pump failed. 8 months old, 9k miles. I suppose I'll get a new engine out of it, but my faith in the car is now severely -

Alfas - are they worth the grief? 25 Aug 2006 (Forum)

Merc S Class. Have I gone mad? 19 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I may be getting a new car allowance, significantly more than I currently receive. This gets me thinking. I could be tight, run a car like I currently do and pocket the wonga. Alternatively... I'm thinking about buying a three/four year old diesel S-Class for about £18-£20K. My reasoning runs -

Medium to Large Estate Car 3 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Any advice on choosing a family estate car? My missus and i have got a 4 month old baby and are fed up trying to fit all the baby stuff into a peugeot 306. The pushchair will only just get in the boot, let alone trying to get in all the other stuff. We are therefore looking for a medium -
Bumpers 18 Oct 2005 (Forum)
. But are they bumpers? I would say cars do not have bumpers any more. A colleague of mine drives a battered old banger and unashamedly goes in for contact parking - part of the reason the banger is battered. Cheers, SS -

I own a 1996 "old Shape" Audi A6 2.5 TDI (140bhp) with 130,000. I have driven diesels for many years and I know that diesels can be smokey when accelerated hard. I feel that mine does so excessively and I wondered if this is a characteristic of this engine. This email has been prompted -

New or Used? 12 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Having read many posts and some quite interesting viewpoints I might be in the position soon of changing the car and wonder what you lot think. My question is whether to buy new or used with a budget of about £16k? I'm aware of the depreciation on new cars, but this is purely a private purchase -
Tried to follow HJ's advice... 16 Jan 2003 (Forum)
HJ - so my 71 year old grandmother decided that she defiantely wants a new(er) car after the exhaust dropped off her Corolla. No problem I thought, so we went out to look at the New Micra and some nearly new Yaris's, based on your recommendation that this is one of the best small, sensible cars -
Rusty rear wings on Clio. 2 Oct 2002 (Forum)
that this is not an easy repair and the cheapest fix will probably cost around £500 and to replace both rear wings will be at least four times this figure. I know the car is over ten years old this year but as it has a FRSH can I expect a sympathetic response from Renault themselves about making good this problem? Any
