  • Driving simulator experience 9 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Over the past month I have spent 6 hours in a driving simulator at Leeds University as part of a research project looking at the continued automation of driving and the effect on drivers. The simulator is very sophisticated and akin to one used for pilot training. The car you ?drive? is a Jag S

  • Baby you can drive my car... 26 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I know a lot of drivers worse (i.e. rougher and more abusive) than me who would never dream of letting me drive their cars. I too am a bit protective even though my cars have usually been hardly worth protecting; but then again if the thing's a bit crotchety it's only the work of a moment to make
  • Insurance - Cover Driving another car 26 Sep 2005 (Forum)
This issue came up in another forum and I have posted it here so some car insurance experts(are you there Mark?) can comment. I have always thought that my comprehensive policy allowed me to drive any other car but that the cover would be Third Party only. However I have just looked at my policy

  • Hired Driver with illegal Trade Plates 31 Oct 2022 (Forum)
I am seeking help for a friend, she bought a truck which she needed to export to Africa so she contracted a company who had TRADE PLATES  to drive the truck to the Port. She followed the truck to the port in her car but when they got to the port the driver removed the plates on seeing
  • lights for driving abroad 8 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I have a 03 Plate Ford Mondeo.. and have found that the stick on light deflectors are not applicable to the mondeo as its a clear plastic headlight covering. The Ford handbook states that the headlights are to be adjusted for driving on the right. However as I am taking car to France only for 4
  • BMW 430I Grand Coupe - Headlamp coversion for right hand driving 18 Jan 2024 (Forum)
I am going to France and the requirements call for headlamp conversion for driving on right hand side of road. I have LED headlamps . Do I need to make any changes??
  • Fiat Doblo - Really Awkward Drive (between buildings) 7 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Got a really narrow drive (between buildings) and constrains us to a vehicle that gives us the need for rear walk in access (the space useful as well). Does that constrain us to the Fiat Doblo only?. Maybe other makes?.

agree with HJ on many things BUT left foot braking? Never Might be OK if you're learning to drive and will only ever drive an auto but those of us brought up with right fot braking and those who drive autos and manulas NO Be honest - an emergency needing hard/emergency braking and your foots

  • aggressive driving 16 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I sense many drivers have a  lower tolerance of other road users than a few years ago. Driving through Southampton last night was quite difficult as  all the junctions are unknown and getting the right lane first time is quite a feat. Any small mistake is greeted with hoots
  • Private drives and drop down kerbs e-petition 11 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Came across a e petition to make it against the law to park  blocking a drive, thought I try and encourage some signatures http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/34271 Just for the record I dod not start this petition!
  • Driving into central London on a Sunday 7 Oct 2010 (Forum)
How easy is it to drive into London on a Sunday and is it possible to park all day (relatively) cheaply and securely?  Coming from Southampton, btw and would be making an early start to arrive 9-ish.  It's over £90 for a family of four on the train, £80 if I buy a railcard
  • Illiteracy and the driving test 7 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I just wondered if illiterate people are allowed to drive. A neighbour of mine is semi illterate and has just passed his theory although I'm not sure how as he can hardly read. Is he given a verbal test? Then there is the question of reading road signs and hazards signs what happens there?
  • Automatics-Drive or Neutral? 14 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Just been wondering, in the interests of transmission longevity, what's the best method when stopped at a red light or in queueing traffic with an auto? Slip it into neutral or leave it in drive with the parking brake on? (unless the guy behind has his front foggies on-then give 'em a tan I say!) ;-)
  • Driving instructors on motorway 14 Oct 2009 (Forum)
The other day we saw a driving instructors car on the motorway with sign on roof and only driver in car i thought they had to take sign off when on a motorway? All the lads in car had there own opinion so can you nice people please end this argument?
  • Graded driving licence 20 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Should we have graded car driving licences in the UK? First 2 years after test, less than 70 BHP normally aspirated. 2 to 5 years after test up to 120 BHP. Over 5 years unlimited. Or would this upset the "celebs".
  • Do cars learn from your driving habits? 1 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I was reading something the other day about a car with an adaptive automatic transmission and I now wonder how common are adaptive bits and pieces in the electronics so that the car does learn how you drive. Any thoughts?
