Renault - 1.5dci common rail engines and cetane boosters 29 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I run two vehicles with 1.5dci engines and am interested in the long term effects of using cetane boosters such as Millers or premium fuels which also claim to have a higher cetane rating. Is any benefit short term as in it's great for a few k then the engine will suffer from premature wear -
Ford Galaxy (1995 - 2006) - 01 1.9 TDi, cooling fan won't stop 17 Nov 2007 (Forum)
The cooling fan just keeps running even when the engine is shut off and will keep going until the battery is flat. I suspect a stuck thermal switch somewhere from my experience with previous cars. I've just got the Galaxy so I'm not familiar with its systems. The model is 1.9 TDI year 2001. -
FIAT Punto (1994 - 1999) - Clutch judder in cold damp weather 16 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Our faithful Punto has been in the family from new and has now done 55K. I wonder if any Backroomers can provide a scientific explanation as to why we have always noticed quite a marked clutch judder when taking up 1st gear when the weather turns cold and damp. It disappears after running the car -

I think I may know the answer to this question but may I pose it anyway. My Golf is coming up to its 3rd anniversary on Dec 16, the day it was registered. My Road tax run out on 30th Nov before which, no doubt, I'll receive a reminder. Am I correct in thinking that I will NOT require and MOT -

On the way to work this morning there was a sudden loss to power as the engine management light came on. I have attributed this to the "limp home mode" but dont know the cause of the problem. Does anyone know of anything I can try before resorting to having saab run a diagnostic check? My car -

End a PCP early? 30 Aug 2007 (Forum)
My daughter has a PCP, it's been running for 16 months out of 36, and she's just on the good (lower) side of the target mileage at 18K. Now she's considering getting rid of the high fixed costs it represents, but is there a good way to get out of PCP's? I suspect it will not be worth her while -
Replacement Berlingo/Partner? 29 Aug 2007 (Forum)
90 as against 110bhp which is its usual power output in other models in the Citroen/Peugot range. Is this actually a run-out sales deal from Peugot in advance of a new model?? -

Good morning, I am looking to buy a new small car to be shared between my 3 sons (ages 19-23). It is going to have to be capable of long journeys as 2 are at uni in Scotland. On top of that safety and running costs are important priorities. My initial thought was for a 5 door Fiesta 1.25 zetec -
Selling cars from a public road/space 30 Jul 2007 (Forum)
We're considering (only considering) buying a house which has a road running past the bottom fence. At the edge of the road is a layby (which might at one time have been a bus stop) and at the moment there are two cars for sale on it. We're concerned that this practice might cause a nuisance -
Nissan Patrol - 1999ish 17 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Following on from my post re 4x4s, I've started the search. Now, I've seen a 99 Patrol 2.8 GR SE I think the spec is. It looks so tidy it looks like its been clocked... Its got 157K on the clock, but looks more like 57K. Is this likely to be a good buy? Anyone any experience in running -

Free Car Legal Expenses Insurance 20 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Received a letter from Shell Visa (changing from Royal Bank to Citi Bank) in August time. Part of new Offering to Shell Card Holders is Free Car Legal Cover - I pay nearly £20 for each car so this represents £40 saving - not a lot in running a car but a "fill-up for nothing" beats a poke -

More for your amusement than anything else: I am driving my jalopy today, a 106. Took it to put some petrol in, started putting diesel in it (normally drive a vRS Fabia). Only 77p, which I've watered down with 37 quid's worth of unleaded. It seems to be running OK, and the cashier said she's never -
