XUD Engine hunting + loss of power??? 22 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I have a PUG 406 which was fitted with a Citreon Xantia XUD 1900TD engine shortly before I got it. As of today the car will only run roughly, whole engine shacks violently, and the throttle does nothing. It is smoking (BLUE + BLACK), does this mean the FUEL PUMP is the problem? Thx -

Might buy Mrs Bob an old model (brand new) Focus as I've heard there's lots around that Ford needs to shift going cheap, cheap, cheap. Anyone point me in the right direction and what's the best engine for a bit of punch and fuel consumption ? Thanks in advance. Bob. -

If anyone out there has opinions on the X-Trail 2.2 Dci as i'd like to know if this is a reliable SUV and get some idea on motorway cruising fuel consumption. The main issues with this car have been cam belt (chain) adjustments and black smoke on early 2.2 112 Bhp engines. -

Mercedes C180K or C220D 31 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I'm looking at new Estate versions of above as opting out of company car. Performance figures are very similar, but obviously the diesel will use less fuel, but it costs £3K more, so doesn't appear to make sense unless it's worth more on resale (prob at 3yrs, 80-90K miles). Any thoughts, anyone? -

Do you remember where you were when .... 1 Jun 2004 (Forum)
...it first cost you £50 to fill your motor up? For me it was Oxford Services when I filled up my humble Mondeo this afternoon. OK the low fuel light had been on for 10 miles or so and it was 84.9p a litre for unleaded but nevertheless, OUCH! -

Petrol production 1 Mar 2003 (Forum)
In view of the rising fuel prices, how long does it take for the crude oil to be taken from the well, refined & delivered to the forecourt. Now I'm not one to point the finger at anyone for profiteering, but come on chaps. Does it really warrant 10p a gallon rises all round straight away? I won't -

My car's running fine and then on occasions loses revs and begins to kangaroo and the fuel injection system malfunction light comes on. Guernsey diesel price info? 5 Aug 2002 (Forum)
A member of my family is taking his Discovery TD5 to Guernsey later this week and is wondering whether to fill up here in England before he goes (£60ish) or whether to wait until he gets there. I told him that I am willing to bet that fuel is a lot dearer on Guernsey but can anyone confirm it? -
fiat tipo turbo diesel bad mileage 14 Apr 2002 (Forum)
My car is constantly chucking out a cloud of dark grey/black smoke from the exhaust. The fuel and air filters have been changed recently and it doesn't use oil or water so I assume this is due to overfuelling??? Any ideas as to how I could adjust this myself???? -
HGVs Tailgating 12 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Drove up the M1 this afternoon for the first time in ages - Normally use M40. I couldn't believe how close some HGV drivers were behind each other. As close as 6-8ft at 50-60 mph. The danger is obvious but I can only assume this 'slip streaming' must save fuel: or what? Bob H -

GDI Engines - Ford 15 Dec 2020 (Forum)
to a nylon pipe failing, which was replaced by a re designed one. The other main concern (this must also apply to other GDI engines) is carbon build up on the inlet valves. As opposed to more traditional engines, fuel is injected directly into the cylinder, hence the valves aren't cleaned by the fuel
