Astra Ecotec Cam Belt Failure Info 12 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Similar story to David W's job back in October 01. Car lost power at 70 MPH/3000 RPM and ground to a halt. Belt and tensioners had been changed at 30K and car had now done 71K. It was due for a change but there was no noise whatsoever coming from that end of the engine. Engine stripped - 16 -
Servicing. Why bother? 30 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Following on from the "Dealer attempted rip-off or fraud?" thread, my question is about servicing. As soon as the car is out of warranty, why take it for a regular service? Let me clarify, I would always recommend an oil and filter change when due, but you can get that done at most quick fit places -
Toyota Yaris D-4D Testdrive. 10 Mar 2002 (Forum)
changes and a full service every 20k or two years. Superb! My only reservation is that, as with most cars today, the amount of plumbing and gizzmos surrounding the engine is going to make DIY for the 'Weekend Mechanic' a thing of the past. Apart from an oil change I don't think there is an awful lot -

I have had my cambelt changed on friday just gone, when i dropped it off all was fine.Picked it up on monday and was asked if it had been smokey on start up and i replied yes for about 2-3 seconds. I started my van up to be greeted with a james bond smoke cloud and it also sounds like it is mis -
Skoda Yeti - Skota Yeti auto -- DSG high mileage 29 Nov 2024 (Forum)
it's a DSG? I'll have an independent inspection done but wondering if I'm buying trouble for future. It's 9k and I'd want to get a good few years out of it. Asked for service history and was shown one page of A4 with a list of yearly service and oil changes every 2 years ... but no actual stamps -
Skoda Superb 2.0 DSG 190 2020 - Keeping a complicated car going 27 Sep 2021 (Forum)
I bought this as other cars i was interested in were stupidly inflated. I find i actually quite like it so I'm looking for any strategies to keep it going for the long term. My worries include the DSG box (early oil change?) and numerous electronic systems. I didn't realise Skoda connect was only -
Mondeo PowerShift - Higher Mileage Car 27 Apr 2021 (Forum)
, however despite it's age it has covered 80,000 miles and has a PowerShift auto box. I believe these 'boxes need servicing to schedule to remain relaible. My main concern is around the gearbox (even if it has had the oil changes to schedule, which I would confirm before commiting to buying -
Honda Accord - Windscreen lack trim detraching 3 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I run a September 2009 1.8 Auto. I took it with mileage of 29 in Feb 2000, it had been sitting on a dealer forecourt for close on six months, so I got a good price. I've always followed Hon John's advice and changed the oil every 5k or six months and the car has never let me down -

90K Astra maintainance 4 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Barchetta. With this in mind, I am changing the oil now every 3k, and the filter every 6k. Apart from the regular service things on the schedule, should I be doing anything more? The car is now being used for more short runs than I would like. Any advice gratefully received! Many thanks. Barchettaman -
Micra 52 plate Tempest 1.0L - Micra K11 Timing Chain 49000 miles 5 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I would like to know the symptoms of a worn timing chain or chain guide. I recently bought a Micra and I did an oil change on it yesterday. As I got it to operating temp I noticed a rather loud ticking noise a bit like tappets noise but seemingly from in the block rather than the rocker cover -
Ford Focus 1.6TD reg 2009 - Best in-tank diesel system cleaner 25 Oct 2018 (Forum)
Hi, A mate has 2009 150,000 mile Focus 1.6 TD and he reckons fuel consumption is dropping by the day. I asked him today what the readout was giving and he said it has been slowly dropping for a fortnight, including after filthy air filter change a few days ago,now below 60mpg -

Everything else works OK. Local garage testing after oil change reset confirms no computer errors -
Volkswagen Polo IV - Independent garage for VW servicing 27 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Hi, just wondering if anyone had any recommendations on a reliable honestly priced independent garage for servicing a 9 year old polo. I've been getting oil/filter/brake fluid changes at the main dealership (not had anything else done like belts etc so far). but having read through some posts -
FIAT Ulysse - Warranty Expired 10 Days Ago 2 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Hi, I paid £3700 for a Fiat Ulysse on April 19th from a dealer. The auto gearbox has been slipping for awhile now and my garage booked it in for an oil change which they did today. However things haven't improved and I'vee been told by my garage that the auto gearbox is knackered -
Fiesta mk4 diesel - Outer n/s cv joint removal 23 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Is it possible to change the cv joint in situ? I just wondered if while tapping the joint off the driveshaft there is a high possibility of pullingl the shaft out of the inner joint accidently. I don't really want to remove the driveshaft as that would mean buying a kit for the inner -

Mitsubishi Lancer - High Mileage Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6 55 Plate (450k) 3 Dec 2012 (Forum)
of mileage without any major work to the engines?? He also added that clutch's last about 75,000 to 85,000 and just to keep changing the oil and filters. With regard to the clutch I don't think that's bad at all considering all the stop start driving taxi's do !! Cheers Mark -
Nissan Micra K12 - When were the cam chains fixed? 18 May 2012 (Forum)
, these K12 cam chain stories are disturbing to read. The old K11 chains might get noisy over 100k, but an oil change soon quietened things down. By the time the K12 came out, Nissan had many years of producing reliable chain-drive engines. Must be the influence of Renault...
