Volkswagen Arteon (2017 on)
Fastback 2.0 TSI 190 R-Line DSG 5dr
Great looking, left-field choice but lacks character and comfortable seats
I’ve had this on lease for nearly three years and it’s been a not exactly exciting but reliable car. The striking design still draws glances from others and it’s great to be different. It drives well and the engine is smooth and punchy but struggles a bit with the heft - i think the power of the Gti would suit it better. Mine has the switchable sport suspension which offers a good handling/comfort compromise for longer trips and then point-to-point B road sprints. It’s huge inside, has all the kit as standard and digital dash is excellent. The absolute worst aspect of the car is the seats - absolutely horribly hard after 1 hours drive. I couldn’t recommend the Arteon on that basis alone, but others may have better tolerance. If it had seats from a Volvo V60 I’d probably get the higher powered version.
