surprisingly good

I bought this car from new. It was my wife's choice and, at the time, I would have preferred to buy German. I've since changed my mind.

The buying experience was very good (20% discount at the time). I've covered 30,000 miles and in that time the dealer servicing costs have been very reasonable. I've also had a belt and the suspension drop-links replaced and both items were around £150 pounds, fitted by the dealer. Again, I thought this was very reasonable and as I drive on pot-holed country roads I cant blame Peugeot for the drop-links needing replacing.

Passengers frequently comment on how smooth riding and comfortable the car is (including my father-in-law, who has a newer 5008). I would have preferred the car not to come on 45 profile tyres (on 17" wheels), but I switched to all season tyres and this has since improved things for me. It also helps a lot with traction in freezing temperatures.

The engine and auto gearbox are both very good and the engine has good torque in real life when overtaking, when it's surprisingly quick. It runs out of proper poke above 70, as I guess you would find with most small engined cars with a turbo.

Its not particularly enjoyable to drive this car quickly and it doesn't really inspire confidence when pressing on. It's really for relaxed driving and it excels at this.

There's been a couple of electrical glitches, which have been fixed using guidance on on-line forums. One issue disables the radio, which I gather is particular for optioning the sports button. An amp in the boot needs unplugging and re-plugging and this issue is then sorted. The other time the air-con went a bit haywire and has since corrected itself and behaved impeccably. In the grand scheme of things these were minor annoyances.

I'm currently looking to replace it with a bigger car (due to the limited space for rear passengers) and I'm finding it difficult to say goodbye to it. It has been by far the best ownership experience of any car I've had. There was a lot of thought and engineering that went into the 308 and I'd be reluctant to not be able to use the same dealer for my next purchase and servicing, so a 3008 might be on the cards!
