Peugeot 3008 (2017 on)
1.2 Allure
Very concerning
I loved this car for 4 years. Great to drive, amazing acceleration for such a small engine, quiet, comfortable with lots of bells and whistles. It was the best car I ever had. Then....after just over four years a persistent high pitched continuous noise developed after driving for quarter of an hour or so. My mechanic refused to look at it unless I could pinpoint where the noise came from. This took months but eventually I tracked it down to the driver's side wheel. The noise was coming from the brakes rubbing against the disc which was molten red in colour, as it had got extremely hot. My mechanic said he had never seen such poor metal in the brake carrier in a car of any type, including old ones. The metal in the brake carrier had broken up, got meshed with the brake pad and produced the noise. The brakes could easily have stopped functioning as the brake fluid would have got extremely hot. I could not believe this in a car of only four years. I had had it serviced regularly, and the brake pads and disc had been fitted about 19,000 miles and a year and a half earlier at a Peugeot main dealer. I complained to Peugeot, but they simply said no refund was due on the brake disc replacement as it was over a year ago and out of guarantee. I said I did not expect a car to have such poor quality metal that disintegrated after four years and they said they would take this on board but offered me no compensation. I bought the car new and intended to keep it for its lifetime. I didnt expect that to be four years.
