Efficient

I bought this 1400cc HDI Peugeot 206 off of my cousin with 75.000 miles on it and kept the car for a few years up to 100.000 miles. In which time the car was okay, but could have been better.

I shall being with the good. For starters, PSA know how to make a cracking little diesel engine. The 1400cc diesel in the 206 is not very fast but it is only £30 a year on road tax and I can keep the fuel tank filled up for weeks with spare change I find down the back of the sofa. Had the same unit in my daughter’s sixth generation Fiesta and it was faultless.

The 206 is also fairly cheap to fix, should anything go wrong.

However, other than being efficient and cheap to fix - like many rivals. There’s not much else I can say about the 206 diesel. It seems very average for its class - beating the Vauxhall Corsa but struggling to match the Renault Clio and Ford Fiesta.

Negatives to the 206:

The interior is a bit cheap and rattly comfort is about average for a car like this.
A/C broke.
Then at 80.000 miles the alternator went,
At around 100.000 miles it started to bubble slightly.
Other than that only the handbrake required adjustment/repair to pass MOT and it needed new ball joints and wheel bearings. All in all not too bad, but could have been better.

So would I recommend the Peugeot 206 to a friend? Maybe, as I said the Clio and Fiesta are better but the 206 is better than something from Vauxhall.
