Hyundai i30 (2017 on)
1.4 T-GDi 140ps SE Nav 5dr
Refined, very well equipped, and totally problem free
I bought this car after two ford focus diesels from 2004 to 2018.
I initially ordered the 1.0 SE Nav but following numerous delays on cars that were supposedly "on the ship in Poland" but never arrived, I decided to cancel the order and was offered a 1.4 turbo for only a couple of hundred more, and i am very happy I did.
The engine is a dream, very sporty and completely silent at tick-over, an incredible difference in noise levels compared to my previous diesels. The car is generally very refined, although, compared to my previous Ford Focuses, I found the ride a bit "unsettled" at first, on bad roads. I think I was spoilt by the Fords' suspension setup which is an area where I think Ford is very good. At the same time, my Fords were very problematic, with quite a lot of little issues like having low clearance when climbing over kerbs, doors and windows getting frozen up (and frozen open) in cold weather, and very significant engine issues. The Fords were generally not reliable in winter, which is very important for me, and the hand brake was awful . After nearly 4 years, I think my Hyundai I30 looks brilliant, is sporty, has a superb, quiet engine, is 100% reliable and I have the feeling that it will be so for many years to come. It has excellent fuel economy and is so efficient that I do not have to pay any clean air zone charges to enter our city centre. The SE Nav was the second cheapest in the range and yet has everything i needed without having to buy any extras. Brilliant 8 inch infotainment screen, autonomous braking, auto lane keeping, auto lights, heated windscreen, and lots more. I've had no frustrations with this car and I love that!
