Honda Jazz (2008 - 2015)
1.4 i-VTEC EX 99 5dr
Wish I'd bought one earlier
For 20 years I'd managed very happily with a procession of middle-aged Mercedes E class estates, each with a six-cylinder petrol engine of between 3 and 3.2 litres, and fuel consumption in the low 20s. As my last one was getting ready for replacement at 191,000 miles I suddenly had a yearning for a Honda Jazz. Don't ask me why, because I don't know - but lack of any more petrol Mercs in my (low) price range could have been one reason.
After weeks of only research during Covid lockdowns I found a Jazz of the type my search has narrowed down to - an EX manual in Cerulean blue with full Honda history and 71,000 miles. To my delight, apart from rather less seats-down space for those trips to the tip, the Jazz does everything the Mercs could do with the mind-blowing (to me) economy of nearly 50 mpg. Fun to drive, nippy and responsive, a doddle to park and more practical in many ways than any of the Mercs had been. Luna, our Border Collie loves the safety and space with the magic seats tipped up, the drive is quiet and comfortable apart from the odd jarring from the less-than-sophisticated rear suspension, and everything works just the way it should - including the excellent climate control.
My only worry is that at 12 years old it cannot last for ever, and while my next car may well be another Jazz five or six years down the road, I won't be able to have one in that same glorious blue colour!
