Honda CR-V (2018 - 2023)
2.0 i-MMD Hybrid SR E-Cvt 5dr
Comfortable, spacious, easy to drive, and smart but lacks the interior 'wow' factor of German marques
All the car we'll ever need. Gains affection for being nice to drive, with reasonable performance and ride comfort, great visibility, and bright headlights. Interior space is a huge plus and the boot is practical with a flat floor, but misses compartments either underfloor or behind the rear wheelarches. Ride comfort is OK, helped by tyres with a decent profile. The same tyres roar over most surfaces above 40 mph, though.
Fuel returns average 43 mpg in autumn, which drops to 38.5 in cold weather. Both achieved on E5 rather than E10 petrol, which reduces both by around 4 mpg surprisingly. The engine is quieter using E5 petrol and generally isn't too noisy, even when working hard.
Doors don't have the solid feel of an Audi, and some of the 'nice to have' features such as an automatic courtesy wipe when washing the screen and smart ambient lighting are missing. Internal storage is plentiful, although the glove box isn't huge.
Trim quality is so-so. Cream 'leather' is a better option than the black, which is actually two colours if you look carefully. The wiper de-icer is a gimmick and touchscreen like something from the late 1990s.
Very happy with the car and would have another. An option to upgrade to Nappa leather would have been great. Currently only the SE, which misses out on a bit of kit, has this option.
