Honda CR-V (2002 - 2006)
2.2 i-CTDi Executive 4 X 4
Well built, remarkably good drive, fast and reliable above all PRACTICAL.
Had this car for nine years now, it currently has 203,000 miles on the clock and is still going strong, no chain noise, smoke or misfiring, yes we have had to replace a couple of shocks the odd joint and did a bit of a de-coke of the air system but apart from that it goes like a train. Further and you are probably not going to believe this but it is remarkably good off road, we have taken it down to the Auvergne and done some serious rough stuff and it performed brilliantly even on some twisting, curved steep slopes. ( I have not tried it in deep mud). Of course at 140 break it has plenty of power more than most defender type Land rovers. Unfortunately what it does not have is a low box and a diff lock, having said that it does have the automatic rear wheel drive if things get lose and that helps enormously to power it through scree etc. It is also incidentally very good on snow and ice which, living on a hill, is why we bought it in the first place.
I recon we get about 38- 40 mpg with sensible driving, the boot is huge especially with the seats down so trips to the dump with massive bags of green waste is easy. It feels safe, and with a good N-cap rating I believe it is. Any drawbacks? well the interior is inclined to mark a bit too easily, the in built sat nav is a bit naff especially as you are supposed to buy a new map disc every year, which we don't do we simply have a stand alone unit which is more than adequate. Parts are expensive but there are plenty of after market good quality parts available.
Would I recommend this car to a friend, I surely would (and have) would I buy again, most definitely( if needs be) is it the best car I have ever owned, certainly, not that I have ever been able to afford a new one.
