Fiat Panda 4x4 (2005 - 2012)
1.2 8v 4x4 5dr
Humble and surprisingly competent
Having owned many Fiat's over the years, and having moved to the rugged and sometimes bleak county of Northumberland, I purchased the Panda last year thinking that it would come into it's own during a probable harsh North East winter. As it turned out despite incredible wind speeds there has been no sign of any snow in my area as we approach April.
To counter this disappointment the car has proved to be both capable and reliable. Reports suggested it was very slow- with a 0-60 time of 20 seconds- but actually it doesn't feel that bad. Due to its 4 wheel drive capability it is very low geared. This is great at slower speeds and climbing which is essentially what it was born to do but the trade off of course is that it is certainly not a car to tackle long trips and motorways are best avoided.
Great around town, squeezes through gaps and simple to run and operate. Has surprising load space too. A negative is that the rear seat folds forward but doesn't go flat. To counter this I have fitted a Thule roofbox which gives good extra carrying capacity.
This particular car can be seen on the front page of the Spring 2020 edition of Parliamo, the magazine of the Fiat Motor Club GB minus the roofbox.
Overall, a good buy especially if you have the need for some off road or remote area driving.
