Fiat Doblo (2001 - 2009)
1.9 Multijet Dynamic 120
Truly excellent.
I had a red 2003/03 1.9 JTD SX before and after being called Postman Pat for 4 years I decided to trade it in for silver facelift model earlier this year. After getting on the motorway on the way back from Bristol (to Reading) to find a serious wheel wobble above 65mph I found I needed front tyres (they didn't match and were worn unevenly) and wheel alignment. Really that was the fault of Bristol Trade Centre, their attention to detail just isn't quite up to scratch. Since then it has been almost perfect.
Sometimes the computer has a tantrum when you start it up and says a random system has failed, (like ABS) but restarting clears that and all is well. Electrical puzzles are to be expected on FIATs really. Also the DPF got clogged last month but after the dreaded "Engine Failure" message I went to a garage, got it regenerated and I was on the road again in 20mins. I need to make sure I go for a few more long fast drives.
The car is amazing really. It will swallow up any thing you try and put in it. The driving position is great, I love the characteristics of the engine, the speakers are OK (the stereo was replaced on day 1). I took it for a service on Monday and it is "flawless". No problems at all. I take a great deal of care over all of the cars that I buy, that's pretty key to keeping them in good condition. I already know how good 1.9 diesel Doblo's are, after a 5300km trip around Europe in the old one a few years ago I found all of the little oddities and I grew to love them.
Everyone who travels in it is impressed with the comfort and it really is deceptively fast.
Having seen loads of Berlingos and Kangoos I would choose a Doblo everytime. Except for the new one. It's just too ugly.
