The alternative just got mainstream...

I heard James May review the Sandero (on You Tube) and got really interested. So after a bit of thought and a flash of recklessness I bought my late 2020 Dacia Sandero Stepway 1.0 TCe Bi-Fuel Comfort 5dr. This was the Bi Fuel Hatchback model. So I was a bit anxious about filling up with lpg. I need not have worried - it was a piece of cake.

I need not have been worried about lpg filling up with lpg at all. OK it is I admit, a little more fiddly in that you have to use the adaptor and you lose the spare wheel space as this is where the lpg tank is located (you get some ''slime'' and an inflator in the place of your spare wheel). But look at the savings, where do you pay 58 pence per litre for fuel? You do with lpg in the UK. It is a no brainer and my local Morrisons has 2 pumps that dispense lpg. I got another motorist who was filling up with lpg to show me how to fill up and it is easy. He was super helpful and each vehicle has the UK adaptor (if you go on the continent they have loads of lpg pumps but your adaptor may be different) .

The fit and finish are fine. OK maybe you're not getting VW quality but so what it is absolutely fine. For a 10 month old vehicle with around 6,500 miles on it I was paying very much substantially less than say if I'd purchases a VW Polo or a Ford Fiesta. Winning all the way to the bank. Plus it is a nice fun drive, I drove mine 80 miles from where I part exchanged my old 2014 Peugeot 107. It was a nice ride with motorway miles being fine; as long as you know you're not in a Ferrari or expect too much from your 3 cylinder 100 bhp engine, you'll be fine. By the way under the bonnet it is Renault; much as Skoda's are really VWs without the badge.

Now as I have just got the car I cannot say if it is long term reliable. But magazine '' What Car '' has named it the '' best small car'' for 2021 and please note this What Car award is for the facelift 2021 version which is a newer proposition. But to me, the 2020 version is absolutely OK and it was facelifted in 2017 anyway. Either one will probably float your boat I expect. My guess is, I'll stay with this for a couple of years then if I still like it may part exchange for a newer one if needed.

Jame May has hit it on the head - he loves Dacia. Sensible bloke watch his Dacia Sandero review on You Tube; it's a real laugh and he does like the Dacia marque too.
