- New Toyota RAV4 revealed as sixth generation of top-selling family SUV
- More rugged looks and advanced all-new infotainment system
- Plug-in hybrid with range of 62 miles and DC rapid charging
- Arrives in 2026 with prices likely to start from £45,000
The new Toyota RAV4 has made its world debut, with more rugged looks, plug-in hybrid power and advanced new infotainment.
The new Toyota RAV4 is the sixth generation of the firm’s pioneering family SUV, of which more than 15 million have been sold worldwide.
This makes the launch of an all-new Toyota RAV4 a big deal for the Japanese giant.
In Europe, it will be offered in both hybrid and plug-in hybrid guise, but the UK is expected to only take the plug-in hybrid version. This will have an impressive range of 62 miles.
There will also be a new Toyota RAV4 GR Sport variant, with bespoke design and suspension tuning to capitalise on on Toyota’s various motorsport activities.
The new Toyota RAV4 has an all-new infotainment system, called Arene, which promises to be faster and more user-friendly than today’s systems.
The new Toyota RAV4 needs to be at the top of its game because this is a competitive sector. Family SUV rivals to the new Toyota RAV4 include the popular Kia Sportage, the new Volkswagen Tiguan as well as the likes of the Hyundai Tucson, the Skoda Karoq and the latest MG HS.
2026 Toyota RAV4 prices and release date

The new Toyota RAV4 is likely to cost upwards of £45,000. That’s because the regular hybrid in today’s range, which has a price starting from under £40k, will not be carried across to the new range.
The new Toyota RAV4 will arrive in the UK in spring 2026.
2026 Toyota RAV4 styling, interior and technology

The new Toyota RAV4 has much more rugged styling. It is an approach also followed by the latest Toyota Land Cruiser, and will help it stand out in a crowded marketplace.
At the front, the new Toyota RAV4 has a more angular appearance that includes squared-off sections either side of the bolder-looking bonnet. There are C-shaped headlights with LED lighting plus a bigger, more distinctive grille.

The new Toyota RAV4 has a more rugged appearance from the side, with bold wheelarch extensions and lower body cladding. Despite appearances, it is similar in size to the current model, at around 4.6 metres long.
The new Toyota RAV4 has the same bodyside creases seen in other models such as the Toyota C-HR. The rear bumper has tough-looking protection panels at the sides along with a bold centre section that stands clear to add extra off-road ruggedness.

The new Toyota RAV4 also has a new ‘RAV4’ logo displayed prominently on the tailgate.

There’s a sporty new Toyota RAV4 GR Sport version as well. This has 20-inch black alloy wheels, a GR-exclusive hexagonal ‘G-mesh’ black grille and plenty of GR badging, just like you see on the Toyota GR Yaris.

Inside, the new Toyota RAV4’s rugged-looking cabin is more modern than before. There is a freestanding 12.9-inch central touchscreen and an additional 12.3-inch colour driver display. There’s a good array of easy-to-use buttons too, including large drive mode buttons on the centre console that will be easy to use when wearing gloves in winter.
The new Toyota RAV4 GR Sport has extras including high-backed sports seats trimmed in exclusive synthetic leather and suede, GR logos and red accents, aluminium pedals and centre console knee pads.

The new Toyota RAV4 has a brand new software system called Arene. This includes new-look multimedia that Toyota says gives enhanced connectivity, navigation and security tools, "all operating faster than ever before."
The new Toyota RAV4’s navigation includes Google Points of Interest, real-time speed cameras and Low Emission Zone alerts. It is combined with 3D lane assistance in the driver display to make directions easier to follow.
Engineers say the new Toyota RAV4’s infotainment is more intuitive and user-friendly, thanks to being designed with European customers in mind. It can receive over-the-air updates and connects to an improved MyToyota smartphone app.

More details about the new Toyota RAV4’s interior dimensions, including boot space, will follow in the build-up to its launch in spring 2026.
2026 Toyota RAV4 engines, performance and fuel economy

The new Toyota RAV4 is only available as a plug-in hybrid. This has a large 22.7kWh battery (30% bigger than before) that gives an EV range of 62 miles. It can use 50kW DC rapid chargers and go from 10-80% in around 30 minutes.
Fuel economy details of the new Toyota RAV4 will be revealed closer to its spring 2026 launch. It is likely to be one of the first models to be tested under stricter conditions for plug-in hybrids.
The new Toyota RAV4 plug-in hybrid will be available for the first time in front-wheel drive guise. The motor produces 270PS. There’s also an all-wheel drive version, called AWD-i, with 304PS and 0-62mph performance in 5.8 seconds.

The new Toyota RAV4 GR Sport variant is much than just a styling exercise. It has high-performance dampers, retuned springs and power steering, strengthened rear bracing and 20mm wider tyres. This means it will offer a sportier drive and will be an interesting new choice in what’s generally a family-focused sector.
Toyota says further details of the UK model range and specifications will be announced in due course.
