Audi A6 2025: Prices, specs and release date

  • New Audi A6 saloon gets plenty of modern technology
  • Audi’s best-ever Cd drag coefficient for an ICE model
  • 2.0 TFSI and 2.0 TDI engines available from launch
  • On sale in May with prices from £50,560 and deliveries beginning in July

The new Audi A6 saloon has been revealed as a classic four-door alternative to the electric Audi A6 e-tron range of hatchback and Avant estates – and the sister saloon to the new Audi A6 Avant

The new Audi A6 saloon is, like its key rivals the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, a three-box saloon. It is designed to compete in the heartland of the premium car sector.

With the demise of models such as the Jaguar XF and Volvo S90, and the lack of interest in the leftfield Genesis G80, the new Audi A6 and its German rivals have this sector pretty much sewn up.

And the new Audi A6 is aiming to stand out from the competition with bold styling and a high-tech look.

The new Audi A6 appears even more sophisticated inside, with a digital-first interior offering up to three screens for a near-full-width ‘digital stage’.

The new Audi A6 sticks with petrol and diesel engines, leaving the pure electric options to the Audi A6 e-tron (which is a completely separate model, despite the similar-sounding name).

The 2.0 TFSI petrol and 2.0 TDI diesel should be joined by new Audi A6 plug-in hybrid models later.

As traditionally one of the firm’s most profitable models, the new Audi A6 is an important car, so let’s take a closer look at what the 2025 version offers.

2025 Audi A6 prices and release date

New Audi A6 prices start from £50,560 for the 2.0 TFSI 204 Sport. New Audi A6 S line grade, which is always popular in the UK, costs from £53,360.

The new Audi A6 2.0 TDI quattro 204 is notably more expensive, starting from £54,830 in Sport guise, and £57,630 as an S line.

The range-topping new Audi A6 Edition 1 costs £58,260 as a 2.0 TFSI 204 and £62,530 as a 2.0 TDI quattro 204.

The new Audi A6 goes on sale in May, with first deliveries expected from July 2025.

2025 Audi A6 styling, interior and technology

The new Audi A6 has what’s called ‘reductive’ styling. The streamlined design gives a Cd drag coefficient of just 0.23, the best ever achieved by an Audi with a combustion engine.

At the front, the new Audi A6’s Singlegrame grille is set low, with sleek (and standard) Matrix LED headlights and side ‘air curtains’. A discreet spoiler built into the lower front bumper helps reduce front axle lift. The inset bonnet is a neat design touch too.

The new Audi A6 has an elongated side profile with an upward-sloping rear end that modernises the traditional saloon car proportion. Audi calls the rear a ‘notchback’, with its shape and sharp curvature helping balance rear end lift and drag.

The new Audi A6’s rear lights have precise graphics and blend precisely into the sides. There’s a continuous light strip and additional vertical brake light.

As with many of the firm’s models, the new Audi A6 also has boldly-creased wheelarches front and rear, which give it a muscular appearance.

The new Audi A6 has the ‘digital stage’ interior seen in many of the firm’s latest models. This freestanding Audi MMI panoramic display has an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit with a 14.5-inch MMI touchscreen, mounted beneath a curved piece of glass.

The ultra-bright OLED displays are complemented in the new Audi A6 Edition 1 by an additional 10.9-inch passenger display.

The new Audi A6 uses an Android Automotive OS operating system. This gives over-the-air updates and allows third-party apps such as Spotify and YouTube to be downloaded.

The new Audi A6 contrasts this technology with a ‘Softwrap’ that extends from the front doors across the entire width of the dashboard. It can be finished in cloth, leather-effect material, Cascade textile or Audi’s suede-like Dinamica microfibre.

The new Audi A6 measures 4990mm long, 60mm longer than the old Audi A6. It has a wheelbase nearly three metres long, for plenty of rear seat space, and is 1880mm wide.

The new Audi A6 is available with a clever switchable panoramic glass roof, with six shaded segments that can be switched on and off. It spans almost the entire cabin.

The new Audi A6 has a 492-litre boot, whose width of more than one metre means two large suitcases can fit in side-by-side. There are standard 40/20/40 foldable rear seats.

2025 Audi A6 engines, performance and fuel economy

The new Audi A6 launches with a simple range of two 2.0-litre engines – a TFSI petrol and TDI diesel. Both have a standard S tronic automatic gearbox.

The new Audi A6 saloon is not offered with a pure electric setup, but plug-in hybrids are expected to follow later.

The 2.0-litre TFSI is the entry-level engine. It produces 204PS and 340Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0-62mph takes 8.2 seconds while CO2 emissions start from 161g/km.

The new Audi A6 2.0 TDI also produces 204PS, along with 400Nm of torque. With quattro four-wheel drive standard too, 0-62mph takes 6.9 seconds, with CO2 emissions from 135g/km.

The new Audi A6 2.0 TDI uses MHEV Plus mild hybrid technology. This advanced system gives partially-electrified driving, allowing pure EV mode when driving slowly in the city, or when coasting. It is aided by a clever powertrain generator and 1.7kWh lithium ion battery.

The new Audi A6 has three suspension options. The standard system uses five-link front and rear suspension largely made of aluminium. Standard on Sport, Audi says it is designed to be more comfortable than the old Audi A6.

The Audi A6 S line and Edition 1 have a ‘sport’ suspension setup, which lowers the body by 20mm.

The Audi A6 is also available with adaptive air suspension, featuring electronically controlled damping. It is optional only on quattro models.

For those interested in big wheels, the new Audi A6 offers an array sized from 18 inches to 21 inches. Sport, S line and Edition 1 go from 18, 19 and 20 inches, with 21-inch wheels available as an option.

Is the new Audi A6 a saloon?

The new Audi A6 is a traditional four-door saloon. This is in contrast to the latest Audi A5 ‘saloon’, which is actually a five-door hatchback replacement for the old Audi A4 saloon.

Is the new Audi A6 a good car?

The new Audi A6 is based on the same Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture as the Audi A5 and Audi Q5, both of which have impressed us recently. This means hopes are high for the new executive saloon.

What colours is the new Audi A6 available in?

The new Audi A6 is available in a choice of 10 colours – Arkana White, Glacier White, Mythos Black, Grenadine Red, Florett Silver, Firmament Blue, Ascari Blye and Chronos Grey. There’s a new colour called Midnight Green, and a pearl effect Daytona Grey.
