The new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 is described as an entry-level all-electric model that "represents the last piece of the puzzle on our way to the widest model selection in the volume segment."

Volkswagen CEO Thomas Shafer said the new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 will enable to firm to "offer every customer the right car with the right drive system – including affordable all-electric entry-level mobility."

The new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 show car, seen here in digital renders and artist sketches, is part of a high-profile launch for the new electric ‘people’s car’, which will have sporty design, a versatile interior and an all-new software architecture that will enable lifelong updates and upgrades.

The new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 is a long-awaited successor to the Volkswagen Up, which was also available as a clever electric Volkswagen e-Up. Contemporary electric rivals include the Fiat 500e while the new MINI Cooper Electric is compact in terms of size, if not in price.

The new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 will also have two in-house rivals using the same architecture, the Cupra Raval and Skoda Epiq.

2027 Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 prices and release date

The new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 will be a genuinely affordable entry-level electric car. Bosses talk of a starting price of around 20,000 euros or around £16,500.

The new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 will launch in 2027, a year after the production version of the new Volkswagen ID.2all.

2027 Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 styling, interior and technology

The new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 is described as having a 'self-assured and likeable' appearance. Elements such as the dynamic front lights and ‘smiling’ rear "give it character and an identity that people can relate to," says VW.

There are three central pillars to the design of the new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 – stability, likeability and ‘secret sauce’. Head of design Andreas Mindt points to the flared wheelarches, 19-inch alloys and athletic stance.

"A secret sauce element is the roof drawn down in the middle, as is usually known from sports cars… and the slightly cheeky smile at the front is a particularly likeable feature."

The design of the new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 is reduced to the essentials, says Mindt, with no unnecessary gimmicks. It also has an absolutely straight window line, just like on the first VW Golf.

At the front, the new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 has ‘looking’ headlights, a human-oriented design element that includes welcome and goodbye LED light patterns. There are also illuminated Volkswagen badges front and rear.

Inside, the new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 features "pleasant to the touch" surfaces in warm, friendly colours. It is designed it has lounge-like seating for a feel-good atmosphere.

The central touchscreen dominates the cleanly-arranged dashboard of the new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1. Pleasingly, there are buttons for interior temperature, seat heating and audio volume below it.

The new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1’s infotainment system uses new software. This offers over-the-air updates so it can be updated and equipped with new functions throughout its lifetime.

The driver has a squared-off two-spoke steering wheel, while the passenger has a configurable dash panel, into which a tablet computer can be snapped, or a shelf connected to form a table.

In between the front seats of the new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 is a multifunction centre console accessible by those both front and rear. It can be moved back and forth on a rail and shelves can be pulled out from it. It’s inspired by a similar design in the larger Volkswagen ID.Buzz.

Size-wise, the new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 measures 3800mm long. This makes it longer than the old Volkswagen Up and Volkswagen e-Up, which were 3600mm long. The new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 is 274mm shorter than the current Volkswagen Polo – and 250mm shorter than the new Volkswagen ID.2all.

The innovative architecture means that although its exterior size is positioned between the old Volkswagen Up and latest Volkswagen Polo, the new Volkswagen ID.Every1 actually offers as much interior space as the larger Polo.

The boot will be big too, measuring 305 litres.

2027 Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 electric motor, performance and range

The new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 is part of the firm’s ‘electric urban car family’ and is based on the new modular electric drive platform, called MEB. VW says it will offer "revolutionary space utilisation and maximum efficiency."

More details, including what size battery the new Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 is to use, will be revealed in the build-up to its 2028 launch.
