  • 4x4-inspired styling and a premium, high-tech interior
  • Offered with both turbo petrol and plug-in hybrid engines
  • Prices from £29,435 with deliveries starting in January 2025

The Jaecoo 7 is a new family-sized SUV that arrives in UK showrooms in January 2025 with prices starting from well under £30,000.

Jaecoo is the sister brand to fellow Chinese new entrant Omoda. It has more rugged off road-inspired styling and a more premium-oriented positioning.

The new Jaecoo 7 measures 4.5 metres long, making it a rival for more expensive cars such as the BMW X1, Range Rover Evoque and Audi Q3, along with more mainstream SUVs like the Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson and Ford Kuga.

The new Jaecoo 7 launches with both a regular petrol engine and a plug-in hybrid PHEV. The latter has a large battery to give a combined range of almost 750 miles.

To offer reassurance to buyers, the new Jaecoo 7 also comes with a seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty.

The new Jaecoo is open for ordering now in the UK – alongside its Omoda 5 sister car – and deliveries will begin in January 2025.

2025 Jaecoo 7 prices and release date

The new Jaecoo 7 is competitively priced. The 1.6-litre petrol turbo starts from £29,435 in front-wheel drive guise. A four-wheel drive version costs from £32,850.

The new Jaecoo 7 is also available as a plug-in hybrid PHEV. This is priced from £35,065.

The new Jaecoo 7 is available in two trim levels, Deluxe and Luxury. There is a simple three-model line-up, with the 1.6T 2WD offered in Deluxe, and both the 1.6T AWD and 1.5T PHEV available in Luxury grade.

The new Jaecoo 7 is now open for ordering with customer deliveries beginning in early 2025.

2025 Jaecoo 7 styling, interior and technology

The new Jaecoo 7 has a modern appearance, with a more rugged look than the Omoda 5. This is intentional, says the firm, as Jaecoo is a more off-road-focused brand.

Incidentally, the Jaecoo name is a portmanteau of the German word ‘Jager’, which means hunter, and the English word ‘cool’.

At the front, the new Jaecoo 7 has a large ‘waterfall’ grille, while the split daytime running lights are distinctive.

At the side, the new Jaecoo 7 has a defined crease line running from front to rear, which has echoes of the Range Rover Evoque. There are also flush-fit door handles, again like you get on the Range Rover.

At the rear, there is a full-length LED light bar. The new Jaecoo 7 is available in five colours, two of which can be chosen with a contrast roof colour.

Inside, the new Jaecoo 7 has a portrait-style centre touchscreen combined with a digital driver display. The centre screen is a 13.8-inch display in Deluxe and 14.8-inches in Luxury.

The layout is slightly different for 1.6T and PHEV models. The conventional petrol versions have a traditional gearshifter, physical volume control and chunky door handles. The PHEV has a column-mounted gearshifter, cleaner door cards, plus different window switches and centre console.

The new Jaecoo 7 Deluxe has a generous equipment list including synthetic leather seats (heated and electric in the front), a panoramic sunroof, multi-colour ambient lighting, surround-view camera plus front and rear parking sensors. Luxury adds a ventilated driver’s seat, heated steering wheel, Sony premium sound system and PM2.5 air purification.

The new Jaecoo 7 has a family-sized interior, buth the boot is a little smaller than the class average, at around 410 litres.

2025 Jaecoo 7 engines, performance and fuel economy

The new Jaecoo 7 comes with two engines, either a 1.6-litre turbo ICE or 1.5-litre turbo PHEV. The 1.6-litre produces 147hp and comes in either front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive guise. Economy is only average though, from 37.7mpg.

The new Jaecoo 7 PHEV is front-wheel drive only. It combines a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with punchy electric motor for a total power output of 204hp. It has a large 18.3kWh battery too, giving an all-electric range of 56 miles.

The new Jaecoo 7 PHEV also has a 60-litre fuel tank, giving a total driving range of 745 miles. On the WLTP cycle, official fuel economy is a headline-grabbing (but unrealistic) 403mpg – and even those who don’t charge the battery should see 47mpg, says Jaecoo. It has CO2 emissions of just 23g/km.

Impressively, the new Jaecoo 7 has a 600mm wading depth, which isn’t far shy of some bigger Land Rover models. The four-wheel drive version has seven driving modes, including Sand, Mud, Snow and Off-Road. It also has a Bosch-developed Integrated Power Brake, or IPB, which simulates a differential lock.

The new Jaecoo 7 has already met global five-star safety standards, says the firm and it comes with a suite of ADAS technologies. This includes a 540-degree panoramic camera that gives an all-round view including a "transparent chassis" that shows what’s underneath the car.

Is the new Jaecoo 7 well-equipped?

All new Jaecoo 7 have a generous standard spec, including heated electric seats, full-length opening panoramic sunroof, front and rear parking sensors plus a surround-view camera.

How big is the new Jaecoo 7?

The new Jaecoo 7 is 4.5 metres long and 1.86 metres wide. It is almost identical in size to a Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson, and 100mm longer than its Omoda 5 sister car.

What is the warranty on the new Jaecoo 7?

The new Jaecoo 7 has a generous 7-year new car warranty. It is valid for 100,000 miles.
