The new Jeep Wagoneer S is the famous 4x4 brand’s first luxury electric SUV aimed at global markets, which is set to launch in the US later this year before following elsewhere in 2025.
The new Jeep Wagoneer S has a headline-grabbing set of stats that mean it is not going to go unnoticed. The electric motors produce more than 600PS, for example, which gives 0-62mph acceleration in just 3.4 seconds.
It also has a massive 100kWh battery that will deliver a range of more than 300 miles.
With striking styling on the outside, the new Jeep Wagoneer S is high-tech on the inside, with a total digital screen space of 45 inches. There’s even a bespoke 1200-watt McIntosh audio system with 19 speakers.
The new Jeep Wagoneer S will provide stiff competition to the top-selling Tesla Model Y, albeit at an estimated higher price from upwards of £75,000. Other rivals include the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, the impressive BMW iX and the new Audi Q6 e-tron.
The new Jeep Wagoneer S will arrive in Europe in 2025, becoming the region’s second electric Jeep, after the Europe-only Jeep Avenger.
2024 Jeep Wagoneer S prices and release date
The new Jeep Wagoneer S arrives in US dealerships in the second half of 2024. It will roll out to other markets around the world from 2025.
A UK launch date has not yet been confirmed, but the UK will be a key market for the brand, so expect it to follow at some point next year.
The new Jeep Wagoneer S huge battery and luxury focus means prices won't start much below £75,000. This means it will go head-to-head with the BMW iX, Audi Q6 e-tron, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and others.
2024 Jeep Wagoneer S styling, interior and technology
The new Jeep Wagoneer S has much sleeker and more aerodynamic styling than is the norm for America’s most famous 4x4 brand. There are still traditional Jeep cues such as the seven-slot grille but given a modern twist as it is now illuminated
The chiselled shape has a much more wind-tunnel-honed profile than is the norm for a Jeep. This helps the new Jeep Wagoneer S achieve a Cd drag factor of just 0.29 – easily the best ever for a Jeep and 15% better than the average SUV, too.
The new Jeep Wagoneer S has a curvaceous bonnet, a more angled windscreen, a sloping roofline and an eye-catching cantilevered roof spoiler with integrated fins, all of which are sure to turn heads. There are also flush door handles and, underneath, a series of shields to tune airflow for minimal drag. These are arguably offset by the chunky 20-inch wheels, but what price good looks?
Inside, the new Jeep Wagoneer S cabin aims to deliver a contemporary interpretation of the original 1963 Wagoneer, considered the world’s first modern luxury SUV. The centrepiece is a wing-like sculpture that spans the width of the cabin, into which an array of screens are incorporated. This is set off by wine red stitching and chiselled metal trim.
The new Jeep Wagoneer S has a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch centre display and a 10.25-inch interactive passenger display. They are all neatly integrated into the dashboard, rather than standing proud, to give more of a luxurious appearance.
The new Jeep Wagoneer S runs the latest Uconnect 5 infotainment system, with standard navigation, EV-specific features such as battery heath and charging status, plus Jeep Connect features that include ultra-precise route mapping that displays a highly-accurate range for the planned trip.
Novel features inside the new Jeep Wagoneer S include soft-wrapped doors with decorative trim, a microfibre suede headliner, premium carpets made from recycled materials and a flat-bottom steering wheel using a Cabo vinyl anti-microbial coating.
The new Jeep Wagoneer S is a five-seater large SUV, with a voluminous 866-litre boot. It measures 4886mm long, 1900mm wide and stands 1645mm tall.
2024 Jeep Wagoneer S engines, performance and fuel economy
The new Jeep Wagoneer S launches in full-fat guise, with a 600PS all-wheel drive powertrain serving up 0-62mph performance in a Tesla Model Y Performance-beating 3.4 seconds.
The new Jeep Wagoneer S is the first car to be based on the new Stellantis STLA Large architecture. This sees it use Stellantis-designed Electric Drive Modules (EDMs), which combine the electric motor, gearing and power electronics into a single drive unit. There’s one for each axle.
With a whopping 100kWh battery, the new Jeep Wagoneer S will have a range of more than 300 miles on a single charge. It uses a 400-volt architecture, with DC charging giving a 20% to 80% charge in a scant 23 minutes.
Full technical details of the new Jeep Wagoner S will be confirmed nearer to launch.
