MINI Aceman 2024: Prices, specs and release date
- New MINI Aceman is a small SUV – the first MINI only to be sold as an EV
- Positioned below the MINI Countryman as an SUV alternative to the MINI Cooper Electric
- Two battery sizes and a range of up to 250 miles
- Revealed later in 2024 with prices set to start from £35,000
The new MINI Aceman is an exciting all-electric small SUV that will be revealed later this year to challenge the well-received Jeep Avenger and Volvo EX30.
Effectively replacing the quirky MINI Clubman, the new MINI Aceman is a smaller alternative to the family-friendly MINI Countryman SUV. It is based on the same platform as the upcoming new MINI Cooper Electric.
The new MINI Aceman will initially be built in China, but big investment in the UK means the MINI Aceman will be built in Oxford from 2026.
With bold styling and a modern interior, the new MINI Aceman looks set to provide a stern challenge to other small SUVs such as the Hyundai Kona Electric, the new Smart #1, along with the excellent Kia Niro EV, and the Vauxhall Mokka Electric. This year will also see a new Ford Puma Electric.
2024 MINI Aceman prices and release date
The new MINI Aceman is currently being previewed in concept guise. The production version will be revealed later in 2024 but is not expected to change much.
The new MINI Aceman should go on sale before the end of 2024, with first deliveries expected in early 2025.
As for prices, the new MINI Aceman is likely to cost from around £35,000. This will help it challenge the very competitively-priced new Volvo EX30.
2024 MINI Aceman styling, interior and technology
The new MINI Aceman is previewed by a concept that shows the key features coming to the production car later in 2024. Instead of the rounded lines and circular headlights of the new MINI Cooper Electric, the new MINI Aceman adopts a more angular look, as part of the firm’s all-new design look for its SUVs.
At the front, the new MINI Aceman has distinctively-contoured headlights, with an inset LED daytime running light. The lights blend into the angular front wings, which are much sharper-edged than the traditional MINI look.
The new MINI Aceman has an octagonal radiator grille outline, which carries ‘ACEMAN’ lettering. The shape references traditional Mini models and on the concept MINI Aceman, the grille has LED contour lighting in a shade of light green – it will be interesting to see if this carries through to production.
Both front and rear wings of the new MINI Aceman have crisp-edged flares, again carrying through the more angular design ethos. There are flush-fit doorhandles and, on the concept car, large 20-inch alloys. Deep bodysides and shallow side windows give it a purposeful stance.
At the rear, LED tail lamps feature Union Jack-style elements and there is more ‘ACEMAN’ lettering on the tailgate itself.
The new MINI Aceman concept car is finished in a pretty Icy Sunglow Green metallic, with a British Racing Green roof. Expect a version of the roof rack to be offered as an option on production cars too.
Overall, the new MINI Aceman measures 4.05 meters long, 1.99 metres wide and 1.59 metres tall. This makes it similar in overall length to a regular small hatch, but wider and taller to boost interior space.
Inside, the new MINI Aceman has a distinctively minimalist look. It is modelled on the interior already seen in the new MINI Cooper Electric, with paired-back design that is built around a large round central touchscreen.
The new MINI Aceman has the world’s first circular OLED display, which takes up the entire surface of the central interface. It uses the latest MINI Operating System, which is customisable and offers over-the-air updates.
Below the central display are a row of toggle switches, for parking brake, gears, drive mode, ‘MINI Experience Modes’ and volume. All other controls are operated through the touchscreen – the new MINI Aceman’s interior is otherwise largely button-free.
The new MINI Aceman has no leather or chrome inside. Instead, it will make use of tactile textiles which will be "soft and plush" to the touch. Expect plenty of different colour and trim options, with the design offering a welcoming and homely feel.
The new MINI Aceman will be roomy inside, with the firm promising space for five adults and a decent boot. This is all thanks to the space-efficient EV architecture. A smart feature will be the ‘floating’ centre console, with a clever and flexible design that extends from front to rear.
2024 MINI Aceman electric motor, performance and range
Full technical details of the new MINI Aceman have not yet been revealed. However, as it is based on the architecture of the new MINI Cooper Electric, the same batteries and electric motors will be used.
Even the most affordable version, the new MINI Aceman E, will have a generous 184PS electric motor, for 0-62mph performance in around 7.5 seconds. To keep costs down, it will have a 40kWh battery, which is expected to give a range of around 190 miles.
The new MINI Aceman SE will have even more power. Its 218PS will serve up 0-62mph performance in under 7.0 seconds. It will have a larger 54.2kWh battery to capitalise on this, with a range of around 250 miles likely.
Bosses are also planning a high-performance MINI Aceman JCW, which could have around 250PS. The MINI Aceman will be front-wheel drive, with the firm not planning to offer an All4 all-wheel drive version.
The new MINI Aceman is based on the same platform as the upcoming new MINI Cooper Electric. This space-efficient setup should also ensure fun handling and plenty of grip in corners.
Reflecting its more family-focused appeal, the new MINI Aceman will have longer-travel suspension and a smoother ride than the MINI Cooper Electric. This will mean it’s better set up to handle inner city potholes and speed bumps.
What car does the MINI Aceman replace?
The new MINI Aceman is an indirect replacement for the MINI Clubman. A small SUV is a trendier, more mainstream machine than a small estate with a quirky barn door-style tailgate, which is why the firm has made the switch.
What is the range of the new MINI Aceman?
The new MINI Aceman will offer a choice of two batteries, either 40kWh or 54.2kWh. The larger battery is expected to have a range of around 250 miles.
How much is the new MINI Aceman?
The new MINI Aceman will undercut the larger MINI Countryman, despite being a pure EV. To challenge the very competitively-priced Volvo EX30, it will have to start from around £35,000.
