The new Lexus LM is a surprise range-topping luxury people carrier for the Japanese premium brand. Seating up to seven, the new Lexus LM is being described as a luxury people mover.
The new Lexus LM luxury MPV competes in a premium sector dominated by SUVs – indeed, Lexus’ own RX has previously offered a seven-seat version, the Lexus RX L.
Other seven-seat SUVs to compete with the new Lexus LM include the BMW X7, Land Rover Discovery, Volvo XC90, Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GLE.
2024 Lexus LM prices and release date
The new Lexus LM is coming soon to the UK. Ordering is open now and it will be released to dealers for first deliveries in November 2023. Lexus says it already has customer reservations for its new flagship luxury mover.
New Lexus LM prices are luxury-level too. The range starts from £89,995, for the LM 350h front-wheel drive. An all-wheel drive version costs £92,995. The range-topping new Lexus LM 350h Takumi is £112,995.
2024 Lexus LM styling, interior and technology
The radical new Lexus LM is a head-turning new people carrier that’s distinctly modern in appearance. A space-optimised layout means it has a very short front overhang, made all the more distinctive by its enormous grille.
The new Lexus LM has slim LED headlights and lashings of chrome-effect trim. Polished 17-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels continue the jewel-like appearance, while the large side windows are surrounded by yet more chrome.
At the rear, the new Lexus LM has a full-width LED light bar, and a tailgate that extends deep into the rear bumper. Overall, the lines are clean and precise, with some clever side sculpture helping conceal the boxy overall profile of the new Lexus LM luxury people mover.
The new Lexus LM really comes alive inside – particularly in the rear, which is accessed through twin electrically-sliding side doors. It has special seats that are designed to counter head-sway, with built-in side wires that stop passengers sitting in a hunched position.
All new Lexus LM will be very well equipped, with seven seats, semi-aniline leather upholstery, twin fixed sunroofs, 21-sepaker Mark Levinson surround sound system and a 14.0-inch monitor for the rear passengers that deploys from the ceiling.
The top-spec new Lexus LM Takumi takes things to another level. It has just four seats, with the rear power seats fully reclining to horizontal and offering no fewer than seven different massage programmes. There are individual folding tables hidden in the outer arm rests, plus USB ports and a wireless charging tray.
The new Lexus LM Takumi has a partition between the front and rear cabin, which houses a huge 48-inch HD widescreen monitor, and a glass panel that can be dimmed for privacy. The monitor has three modes: full-screen, cinema, and separate left and right screens showing independent content (with dual headphones too).
All cabin functions in the new Lexus LM Takumi are masterminded by a smartphone-style controller. It manages the audio system, climate control, seat functions, interior lighting and the rear window blinds.
The new Lexus LM Takumi has an upgraded 23-speaker Mark Levinson 3D surround sound system – and instead of plain old climate control, it has the Lexus Climate Concierge system that uses thermal sensors to control and direct heating and ventilation.
The new Lexus LM is a big vehicle. It measures 5130mm long, 1890mm wide and 1945mm tall – it is actually taller than the new Range Rover. Ultra-large side windows help reduce the risk of car sickness, and fixed windows in the roof also add to the light and airy feel.
Up front, the new Lexus LM has an open plan feel with a minimalist instrument panel, a large central touchscreen and centre console “with designed-in flexibility to suit the needs of professional chauffeur drivers”.
2024 Lexus LM engines, performance and fuel economy
The new Lexus LM has a single engine option, a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol hybrid. The setup is familiar from other Lexus models such as the Lexus NX and Lexus RX.
The new Lexus LM is offered in standard LM 350h front-wheel drive guise, and optional LM 350h E-Four guise, which uses the firm’s electronic AWD system. Both produce the same 250ps and 239nm of torque.
Fuel economy figures for the new Lexus LM will be revealed nearer to launch, as will performance data. The firm has revealed the new Lexus LM will have a 118mph top speed, though.
The new Lexus LM is based on the Lexus GA-K platform architecture. New features include a Rear Seat Comfort drive mode, which adjusts suspension, performance levels and drive distribution, while also suppressing vibration, to boost passenger comfort.
The new Lexus LM also has a revised Adaptive Variable Suspension system, and a clever Pitch Control system, for a “smooth and poised ride”.
People carriers, by their nature, have a high centre of gravity, which can make the ride quality more sensitive. The new Lexus LM mitigates this with engineering to lower the centre of gravity, and body stiffness that’s enhanced with extra welding, adhesive and bracing in key areas.
How many seats does the new Lexus LM have?
The new Lexus LM comes as standard with seven seats, arranged across three rows. Customers can also choose a lavish Takumi model, which has just four seats – the rear chairs are multi-function pews suitable for VIPs.
Is the new Lexus LM a van?
Lexus is quite clear: the new Lexus LM is “not a repurposed van – it is in every regard a dedicated passenger vehicle in its own right”. So that’s us told, then. The firm adds that it even conducted research with private jet manufacturers and hyper-affluent customers during the new Lexus LM’s development.
Is the new Lexus LM an EV?
The new Lexus LM is a petrol hybrid, similar to most other Lexus models. It has a ‘self-charging’ battery and a small amount of low-speed pure electric running.
