- Five-seat electric SUV is a rival to the Tesla Model Y
- Class-leading range of up to 440 miles between charges
- Released in early 2024 with confirmed prices from just £35,970
The new Fisker Ocean is the first car from an exciting new US-based electric car startup that aims to take on the high-profile Tesla Model Y head-on.
Boasting the sort of head-turning style you’d expect from a company founded by a man who used to design Aston Martins, the new Fisker Ocean is an intriguing addition to the electric family SUV ranks currently dominated by the likes of the BMW iX3, the excellent Volvo XC40 Recharge and the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
The entry-level Fisker Ocean boasts a very competitive price tag, while the top-spec model has a class-leading electric range. Add in the new brand’s strong focus on lifestyle and sustainability, and it’s an intriguing new entrant that’s coming to the UK in 2024.
2024 Fisker Ocean prices and release date
The new Fisker Ocean is being built in Europe, at the Magna contract engineering factory in Austria. Right hand-drive has been confirmed, and UK cars should be ready for release in early 2024.
The new Fisker Ocean will not be sold through traditional car dealers. Instead, it will be sold online directly to customers, supported by pop-up stores such as one at Westfield, London.
The new Fisker Ocean will, in entry-level Sport guise, boast an extremely competitive £35,970 price tag. The longer-range Ultra costs £49,880, while top-spec new Fisker Ocean Extreme prices start from £60,880.
2024 Fisker Ocean styling, interior and technology
The new Fisker Ocean has bolder and more distinctive proportions than most family-sized premium SUVs. It has super-clean lines, sleek surfaces and eye-catching ultra-slim LED lighting, which all give it a futuristic look.
The front wings are shallow, heavily-flared and wrap deep into the bonnet, which actually forms a narrow central opening (although sadly it doesn’t open to reveal a front boot, or ‘frunk’).
The new Fisker Ocean has shallow side windows, with a stylish step towards the rear, which helps exaggerate the sporty flare of the rear wheelarches. The body-colour panel has a small see-through panel.
A unique feature is the full-length SolarSky roof on range-topping Extreme models. It has the ability to produce up to 1500 emissions-free miles a year – all powered by sunshine. Sadly, it’s probably unlikely we’ll get near that in rainy old Britain.
The Fisker Ocean Sport has a BigSky fixed panoramic glass roof, while the Ultra has an OpenSky roof with power-slide glass panel.
The new Fisker Ocean will be offered in seven ‘Blue Wave’ colours at launch Gloss White is standard and all others are optional. An additional seven colours that include more impactful hues such as Solar Orange and Red Planet will arrive later.
Inside, the new Fisker Ocean has a strong emphasis on sustainability. Instead of pristine, ultra-processed surfaces, it uses more than 50kg of recycled materials which are designed to once again be easily recycled at the end of the vehicle’s life.
The new Fisker Ocean uses a combination of Alcantara, Ultrasuede, FeelTek, EcoFabric and recycled carpeting. They lower the carbon footprint of the vehicle and create a new type of eco-conscious and sustainable luxury.
Alongside a digital driver’s display, the new Fisker Ocean has a 17.1-inch portrait-style central touchscreen. And if you don’t like it in portrait mode, the Revolve tech in Extreme models rotates it – and includes Hollywood Mode for watching movies and videos in 16:9 surround sound cinematic format.
The new Fisker Ocean’s architecture has been optimised for an electric vehicle. This means it’s very space-efficient inside, with a 476-litre boot. A Clever ‘Flat & Fold Cargo Floor’ is a four-panel organiser that can be arranged into several different layouts to secure items.
The new Fisker Ocean also has a Taco Tray! The driver’s Taco Tray unfolds from the centre console and swivels into place. The passenger Taco Tray pops out from the dashboard.
2024 Fisker Ocean electric motors, performance and range
The new Fisker Ocean will be sold with three powertrain options – Sport, Ultra and Extreme. Sport is front-wheel drive with a single motor, while Ultra and Extreme are all-wheel drive with dual motors.
The new Fisker Ocean Sport produces 275hp for 0-62mph performance in 7.4 seconds. Its Touring Range battery gives up to 273 miles between charges.
The new Fisker Ocean Ultra produces 540hp for 0-62mph performance in 4.2 seconds. Its Hyper range battery gives a range of up to 379 miles.
The top-spec new Fisker Ocean Extreme produces 564hp, for 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds. When fitted with 20-inch wheels, it has a range of up to 440 miles between charges. Even when fitted with draggier 22-inch wheels, it will still do 436 miles between charges.
The new Fisker Ocean uses two different types of battery chemistry. The Touring Range battery uses LFP chemistry, with excellent ‘power density’. It is great technology for frequently using rapid chargers without damaging the battery.
The Hyper Range uses NMC chemistry, with excellent ‘energy density’. It can store larger amounts of power for a given size and weight, but is less tolerant of frequent rapid charges. Even so, both batteries have the same 10-year warranty, guaranteeing a 75% battery state of health.
The new Fisker Ocean has three different drive modes. Earth Mode gives gentle acceleration and maximum energy efficiency. Even the climate control operates at reduced power. Fun Mode is more well-balanced. Hyper Mode turns everything up to full, for maximum acceleration.
How big are the new Fisker Ocean batteries?
The new Fisker Ocean’s range-topping Hyper Range battery has a 113kWh storage capacity, for a range of up to 440 miles. The company has not yet disclosed the capacity of the more affordable Touring Range battery, which has a range of up to 273 miles.
How much is the new Fisker Ocean?
The new Fisker Ocean starts from a very attractive price point. The entry-level car costs from just £35,970. This is around £9000 less than the cheapest Tesla Model Y.
What is the warranty on the new Fisker Ocean?
The new Fisker Ocean has a very competitive warranty too. The standard package is for six years and 60,000 miles, while the battery is guaranteed for 10 years, 100,000 miles or 75% state of health.
