2024 Toyota Yaris: Prices, specs and release date

• New Toyota Yaris receives extensive mid-life facelift
• Updates include all-new digital instruments and ‘largest-in-class’ infotainment displays
• A second more powerful 1.5-litre hybrid option joins the range
• Prices will be confirmed later in the summer with first deliveries due in early 2024

The new Toyota Yaris has received a comprehensive mid-life facelift to ensure the popular five-door small car continues its top-10 best-selling appeal here in the UK. The upgrades come as production of a key rival, the Ford Fiesta, comes to an end.

The new Toyota Yaris has a loyal following in the UK and the Japanese giant aims to further broaden this with a new, more powerful 1.5-litre hybrid. This will narrow the gap between the regular five-door new Toyota Yaris and the widely-acclaimed new Toyota GR Yaris three-door hot hatch.

The new Toyota Yaris will also go head-to-head with two other best-selling rivals, the recently-updated Vauxhall Corsa and Peugeot 208.

A new Renault Clio arrives later in the year as well, while the likes of the Skoda Fabia and value-priced Dacia Sandero also provide competition. 

2024 Toyota Yaris prices and release date

New Toyota Yaris prices have not yet been confirmed. The current range starts from just over £22,000 in entry-level Icon grade. This includes a standard automatic gearbox as part of the 1.5-litre hybrid.

New Toyota Yaris prices shouldn’t rise too much when compared to today’s car. Expect the new Toyota Yaris range to start from around £23,000. The model line-up will reflect today’s range and include Icon, Design, Excel and sporty-look GR Sport variants.

Ordering for the new Toyota Yaris will open in the third quarter of 2023. The company expects first customer deliveries to begin in early 2024.

2024 Toyota Yaris styling, interior and technology

The new Toyota Yaris has similar styling to before, whose lines the firm described as having a “condensed agile” appearance. It has short overhangs, a large and distinctive grille and a sculptural side profile that includes prominent rear wheelarches. Sculptural LED rear lights are mounted within a full-width gloss black panel.

The new Toyota Yaris has fresh alloy wheel designs, with a choice of silver or machined finishes. 17-inch wheels will be popular, although the new Toyota Yaris with the regular 16-inch wheels will have the smallest turning circle, adds the firm, with a radius of just 5.2 metres. A new Juniper Blue paint colour is available across the new Toyota Yaris range.

The new Toyota Yaris GR Sport (pictured above) continues to offer a sporty take on the regular Yaris line-up. It has a more aggressive grille, sporty lower body styling, stylish alloy wheels and a diffuser-style rear bumper. GR logos feature heavily as well.

The special new Toyota Yaris Premiere Edition arrives at launch. This range-topping version showcases some new features, including a fresh Neptune Blue bi-tone paint colour, with contrast black roof and pillars. It has 17-inch machined alloy wheels and, inside, blue stitching for the seats and instrument panel. The new Toyota Yaris Premiere Edition is also available in bi-tone Platinum Pearl White or Silver Metallic paint.

The big changes for the new Toyota Yaris are found inside. Bosses say they have targeted a “best in class” user experience, with a brand new fully customisable driver’s instrument option and all-new, faster and more powerful infotainment system.

The new Toyota Yaris has a 7.0-inch digital driver’s display on regular models, with a larger 12.3-inch combimeter layout on higher grades. The 12.3-inch version can be customised between Smart, Casual, Sporty and Tough appearances.

The new Toyota Yaris also offers a choice between 9.0-inch or 10.5-inch multimedia screens for the infotainment system. Toyota describes them as class-leading in terms of size.

The new Toyota Yaris infotainment setup uses the Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system for the first time. This is more intuitive, faster to react, and offers standard cloud-based sat nav. Overall system stability has been improved. A natural voice recognition ‘Hey Toyota’ function responds to conversational-style commands. Stating ‘Hey Toyota, I’m cold’ will raise the climate control temperature.

The new Toyota Yaris infotainment system allows over-the-air software updates and it includes wireless smartphone integration via both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The clever Toyota MyT app also allows the new Toyota Yaris to offer a smart digital key for the first time. Up to five users can have access to the new Toyota Yaris via their smartphone. They can lock and unlock, and start the vehicle, without having to take their phone out of their pocket. This functionality is standard on the new Toyota Yaris Premiere Edition, with the price including four years’ connection.

The new Toyota Yaris has improved safety assist technology. Toyota Safety Sense now includes extra features, and the option of adding more in the future via over-the-air updates. There is a new camera and radar that can scan further and wider than before, improving the pre-collision assist system, and an acceleration suppression feature intervenes to slow sudden acceleration when it detects the risk of a collision ahead.

The functionality of other safety assist systems in the new Toyota Yaris have been improved, and there is an added feature called Emergency Driving Stop System, or EDSS. If the system detects the driver has made no inputs, because they have been taken ill or become incapacitated, it will first sound a warning. If there is no response, it will bring the car to a gentle stop, activate the hazard warning lights and unlock the doors.

To give a premium feel, all new Toyota Yaris have soft-touch padding across the dashboard, with corresponding soft-feel inserts in the door panels. The centre console is wide and accommodating, while the steering wheel is a small-diameter, sporty design.

2024 Toyota Yaris engines, performance and fuel economy

The new Toyota Yaris continues to offer a hybrid engine as standard, with a CVT automatic transmission. The 1.5-litre engine and electric motor combine to produce 114ps. It is now officially called Hybrid 115. Expect it to average as much as 68.9mpg, and emit from 92g/km CO2.

The new Toyota Yaris now offers an additional more powerful 1.5-litre hybrid system too. This is called Hybrid 130. It has a new transaxle with a larger, more powerful electric motor-generator, and features revisions to the power control unit (PCU) software and hardware.

The new Toyota Yaris Hybrid 130 produces 129ps, 12% up on the regular system, while maximum torque from the 'MG2' electric motor is increased by 30% from 141nm to 185nm across the total rev band. 0-62mph performance is half a second faster, at 9.2 seconds, while the 50-75mph time has been cut to 7.5 seconds. It feels stronger, more responsive and more dynamic overall, promises Toyota.

Impressively, the new Toyota Yaris Hybrid 130 retains ‘best-in-class’ CO2 emissions. They have risen only slightly, to 96-116g/km. Final figures will be revealed later when the new Toyota Yaris range is fully homologated.

Toyota says the hybrid electric powertrain is the number one reason for customers choosing to buy a new Toyota Yaris. “By adding increased performance to the mix, its appeal will be even greater – smooth and nimble around town, and poised and confident on the open road.”

The new Toyota Yaris Premiere Edition and GR Sport models come as standard with the Hybrid 130 powertrain.
