2023 Peugeot 508: Prices, specs and release date

  • Facelifted Peugeot 508 hatchback and estate models get comprehensive exterior update
  • Extra plug-in hybrid options added to the range
  • Three new paint colours and new interior trim options
  • Upgraded infotainment system with voice command feature
  • On sale in June

The updated Peugeot 508 family car is available in both hatchback and 508 SW estate versions, and this year’s overhaul revamps the already stylish looks to make them even more modern. As well as a dramatic new face, new paint colours and interior trim options are added to the mix, and there’s a new plug-in hybrid model to choose from.

As much of the market moves towards SUVs, the 508 has relatively few direct rivals. The revisions certainly make it stand out even more against cars like the Skoda Superb and Volkswagen Arteon, but it might also give potential family SUV customers pause for thought.

2023 Peugeot 508 prices and release date

Peugeot hasn’t yet announced pricing for the 2023 508 range, but with the various enhancements and upgrades we’d expect a modest rise against the current starting price of £33,980 OTR. The 2023 Peugeot 508 goes on sale from June.

2023 Peugeot 508 styling, interior and technology

The outgoing Peugeot 508 already sported some eye-catching exterior looks, and those have been ramped up for the 2023 range. Things are most dramatic at the front, where the grille has been redesigned to splash into the headlights and bumper, very much in the style of the latest 408.

The headlights are new and slimmer, with matrix LED technology that lets you keep high-beam on while casting oncoming traffic in shadow to avoid dazzling drivers. New LED tail lights sit at the back, replete with scrolling indicators. The flanks of both the hatchback and estate models are unchanged, although there is a new design of 18-inch alloy wheel. Three new colour options have been added to the paint roster –Okenite White, Eclipse Blue and Titane Grey. Selenium Grey paint is now available across the range, rather than select models as before. The changes take the total paint colour options to seven.

The 2023 updates are less obvious inside, but there are new trim and upholstery options, from Alcantara seats included on GT models to optional full Nappa leather, as well as wood inlays on the dashboard. There’s a new gear selector between the front seats, now in the form of a switch rather than a lever. Audiophiles might want to tick the option box for a 10-speaker Focal sound system, which is upgraded over the previous version and features a front-optimised setting for front-seat occupants.

The i-Connect Advance navigation system has been upgraded too. It uses a 10-inch screen in the centre of the dashboard, and can be updated over-the-air to ensure the software stays current. A voice assistant feature is included - just say “OK Peugeot” to use it – and the 12-inch digital instrument cluster above the steering wheel also has extra features. You can configure it from the steering wheel to show instructions from the TomTom-powered navigation system, or show energy flow and electric range figures in plug-in hybrid models.

Three trim levels will be available on the 2023 Peugeot 508 – Allure, GT and Peugeot Sport Engineered (PSE). The PSE model is the performance option, with more power than before, four-wheel drive, upgraded brakes and variable suspension that sits lower than the standard cars.

2023 Peugeot 508 engines, performance and fuel economy

Under the bonnet, a range of petrol and diesel engines are available as before, but the 2023 508 now has the option of an entry-level plug-in hybrid. As well as the previously available 225PS model, a new 180PS plug-in powertrain is now offered. It’s the same system found in the Vauxhall Astra.

Official fuel economy figures, and how far the new plug-in hybrid 508 will go on electric power only, hasn’t yet been confirmed. The 225PS model managed up to 39 miles.

The sporty Peugeot Sport Engineered model also uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain, with 360PS and an electric-only range of up to 26 miles.

Is the new Peugeot 508 fun to drive?

Judging by the pre-facelift model, the 508 can be rather enjoyable to drive, with good body control through the corners and a small, sporty steering wheel. The Peugeot Sport Engineered model is particularly fun, with sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, big brakes and a lowered ride height. All that said, it doesn’t feel quite as engaging as something like a BMW 3 Series.

How fast is the new Peugeot 508?

The quickest Peugeot 508 will be the Peugeot Sport Engineered model, which has 360PS and four-wheel drive for speedy acceleration. It’ll go from 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds.

What size is the new Peugeot 508?

The size of the 2023 Peugeot 508 is unchanged, with a length of 4750mm for the hatchback model and a width of 1,859mm or 2,079mm with side mirrors. The 508 SW estate model is slightly longer at 4,778mm. In comparison, the Skoda Superb hatchback is longer at 4,869mm (4,862mm for the estate), and slightly wider at 1,864mm.

Does the Peugeot 508 have a reversing camera?

I have a 2015 Peugeot 508 Allure Blue 2.0 diesel. I am finding it difficult to get a definitive answer as to whether or not this vehicle came with reversing camera as standard equipment. There is a camera above the rear number plate but when I engage reverse the touchscreen display only shows the digital diagram. Was this car fitted with a reversing camera?
Yes, this vehicle would have been originally fitted with a reversing camera. It was added to the standard spec for the 508 Allure in late-2014.
