Geneva Motor Show 2017: Volkswagen launches seven-seat Tiguan Allspace

Volkswagen has launched the new seven-seat Tiguan Allspace at the Geneva Motor Show. It will go on sale in late-2017 and has a longer wheelbase to provide two extra seats, more interior space and a bigger boot. Prices should start at £27,000.

The Tiguan Allspace closes the gap between the Tiguan and Touareg in the Volkswagen line-up and will be 215mm longer than the standard Tiguan, stretching to 4.7 metres. 

With five passengers on board, luggage capacity increases by a 145 litres, compared to the standard model, providing up to 760 litres of boot space. 

When not in use, the third row of seats can be folded away into the floor, while maximum storage with the second and third rows down is 1775 litres. With all three rows in place the boot capacity drops to just 230 litres. 

Available with front-wheel or four-wheel drive, the Tiguan Allspace's engine line-up will mirror the standard Tiguan, with three petrols and three diesels, spanning 150PS - 240PS. 

The only engine that doesn't make it across is the 115PS 2.0 TDI, with its power rating deemed too modest for the Tiguan Allspace's extended dimensions. That aside, the supersized SUV will still do everything the standard model will, with towing capacities peaking at 2.5 tonnes for the four-wheel drive versions and 2.2 tonnes for front-wheel drive.  

Economy ratings for all of the engines are yet to be announced, but we understand that the front-wheel drive Allspace with the 1.4 TSI with 150PS and Active Cylinder Management will return a claimed 46.3mpg while the four-wheel drive 2.0 TDI (also 150PS) will provide an advertised 40.9mpg.

As with the updated Golf, the Tiguan Allspace will be offered with Volkswagen's next-gen Discover Pro infotainment system, with gesture control that will allow the driver to scroll through menus and select radio stations with a swipe of the hand. 

UK specs and prices are still to be confirmed, but £27,000 is expected to be the entry point for the Tiguan, with deliveries expected to start in November 2017.
