Geneva Motor Show 2016: Toyota unveils C-HR hybrid crossover

Published 01 March 2016

Toyota has revealed its new compact hybrid crossover. The C-HR made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show and shares the same powertrain as the Prius. There are no details on pricing, but expect the C-HR to reach showrooms in late 2016.

The compact crossover will be large enough for four adults and will be offered with two powertrains, a 1.2 petrol or a 1.8-litre hybrid. Like the Prius, the hybrid system features a 1.8 petrol engine matched to an electric motor.

Toyota hasn't revealed any fuel economy figures or prices yet, but is has said the C-HR will be offered with two-wheel and four-wheel drive, with the former emitting sub-90g/km of CO2. The 1.2 petrol, with 115PS, will be linked to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard or an optional CVT automatic.

The futuristic coupe exterior styling gets full LED lighting, a swooping roof and rear door handles that are integrated into the rear pillar. The front is dominated by an bulging clamshell bonnet and sharp angular air vents, that surround the trapezoidal lower grille.
