Frankfurt Motor Show 2015: Production-ready Bentley Bentaya revealed
Bentley has revealed the production-ready Bentayga SUV ahead of its debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Bentayga is priced from £160,000 and is available to order now, with deliveries starting in early 2016.
The Bentayga shares its underpinnings with the recent Q7, but with much brasher, muscular styling. Typical Bentley styling cues like quad headlamps, a wide mesh grille and Continental GT style tail lights can be seen, but with broad rear wheel arches and high-riding suspension, along with huge alloy wheels from 20 to 22-inches.
The 6.0-litre W12 engine produces 608PS and a massive 900Nm of torque from 1250rpm. Drive is sent to the permanent four-wheel drive system via an eight-speed automatic transmission and performance is typically Bentley – 0-62mph takes 4.1 seconds and top speed is 187mph. CO2 emissions are 292g/km and economy is 22.1mpg.
Bentley promises the Bentayga will be as capable off the road as on it. The car has been tested comprehensively in extreme environments, from muddy Cheshire fields to -30C snow in the Arctic and extreme desert heat in Dubai. Multi-mode air suspension can be raised for off-road use, plus there is a hill-descent control system to help with slippery downhill sections.
The cabin is opulently finished, with plenty of leather and wood arranged in a layout similar to that used in other current Bentley models. A panoramic glass roof is fitted as standard and there is a wide range of high-tech equipment, including a night-vision system which extends the driver's vision beyond the limits of the headlights. The lights themselves are full-LED.
Buyers can choose from a range of styling packs, exterior finishes, interior materials and convenience gadgets. These include a choice of three audio systems, an automated parking system and adaptive cruise control, plus there is an optional Mulliner Tourbillon clock by Breitling for those who really want to show off.
