Isuzu celebrates a decade of Football Shirt Friday

Isuzu UK has announced its support for Football Shirt Friday as part of the Bobby Moore Fund’s tenth anniversary celebration.

The campaign, which was started in memory of England’s legendary World Cup-winning football captain Bobby Moore, aims to raise awareness and funding to tackle bowel cancer via social media.

The initiative has received substantial celebrity backing from the likes of Tottenham striker and England captain Harry Kane, Arsenal defender Jen Beattie, and broadcaster/DJ Adele Roberts and her partner, actor Kate Holderness.

They feature in a video encouraging fans to wear their favourite football shirt to work, school or at home on Friday, 21st April, share a picture on social media and donate £5 to the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK.

Founded by Bobby’s widow Stephanie Moore OBE in 1993, the fund aims to fund pioneering bowel cancer research to find better ways to prevent, detect, diagnose, and treat bowel cancer. Over the last 30 years, the fund has raised over £29m and seen mortality rates for bowel cancer fall by more than 30%.

Isuzu UK will be encouraging all employees to participate, with the brand having a dedicated Cancer Research UK giving page readily accessible to employees as well as the general public.

Each member of Isuzu UK’s dealer network also has a dedicated giving page, allowing dealers to assist with fundraising by reaching even more people. The Isuzu HQ and the dealer network will sit under the consumer-facing banner of Isuzu FC (Football Community). National campaigns will point to the Isuzu FC super team page, while local dealer initiatives will point to their own fundraising pages.

Commenting on the campaign, Stephanie Moore OBE said: "Mortality rates for bowel cancer have fallen significantly since Bobby’s death thirty years ago, and I’m so thankful to everyone who has supported us over the last ten years of Football Shirt Friday."

"But bowel cancer remains the second most common cause of cancer death in the UK, so there’s still a long way to go. You could be the biggest football fan in the world or not know the offside rule, it doesn’t matter. What’s important is that everyone gets involved on 21st April to help beat the disease that took Bobby too soon."

George Wallis, Head of Marketing at Isuzu UK, added: “Partnering with Football Shirt Friday allows us to get as many people as possible to come together against bowel cancer, making a positive impact thanks to a strong community spirit and a shared love of football. The involvement of the Isuzu dealer network is further evidence that individuals can join forces to support a brilliant cause.”

The fundraising event can be done remotely from home, with participants urged to donate online and share their photos on social media using the hashtag #FootballShirtFriday.

However, Isuzu still offers a single cab version of the D-Max. The Nissan Navara is also available as King Cab, which is an extended version of the single cab with two small bench seats in the back.
