What is the cheapest month to buy a car?
If you're buying a new car and not bothered about having the latest number plate, the best time to buy is the months of February or August. This is the month before the bi-annual plate change - when dealers are looking to offload stock before the new registration period.
If you're buying a used car the best time is during March and September when the plate change happens, with buyers selling their used cars for new ones or trading them in at dealers.
Will UK car prices drop in 2025?
New car prices are likely to continue to increase in 2025, as they have done sharply for the years since the pandemic, when demand for new cars severely outstripped supply. However, with uptake of electric vehicles still lying just behind the levels required to achieve government targets, incentives and price reductions on EVs are your best bet if you're looking for a new car bargain. If you're looking to buy something pre-loved, used car prices have fallen slightly in the last couple of months. However, don't expect to see big drops in used car prices this year as the car industry is still suffering from demand outstripping supply.
What car is the best buy right now?
The best car to buy depends on your needs and budget. So we reckon the best small car is the Volkswagen Polo, while the best family hatchback is the Ford Focus. If you're after a small SUV then we reckon the Ford Puma is the best choice, while a larger family SUV like the Volvo XC60 is a great buy if you need the space.
If you're thinking of making the switch to electric (or already have) the Skoda Enyaq is certainly worth a look. For more inspiration check out our best car guides.
