Geneva Motor Show to return in 2022

Published 27 May 2021

The Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) has opened exhibition registrations and announced that it's on track to host visitors from 19-27 February 2022.

The show — where the latest new production cars and future concepts are shown to the public - will return to the Palexpo’s exhibition halls that are located next to Geneva International airport.

The news will reignite hope for other shows, after the organisers of the show cancelled the event in 2021 following a lack of interest from carmakers and exhibitors.

As well as suffering from the huge financial losses of scrapping the 2020 show, the majority of the event's exhibitors who took part in a survey said they would "probably not participate" in a 2021 show but would prefer attending a 2022 event. Other auto shows in New York and Detroit were also cancelled.

The GIMS  attracted more than half a million visitors in 2019 and is Switzerland's largest public event. It makes about 200m Swiss francs (£171 million) a year, according to the organisers.

The CEO of GIMS, Sandro Mesquita, announced: "We are now officially starting the organisation of GIMS 2022.

"My team and I can hardly wait to present our concept to the exhibitors and subsequently to the public. We really hope that the health situation and the corresponding policy regulations regarding Covid 19 will allow us to bring it to life."
