The three-door hatch is the cornerstone of the MINI range and this third-generation model introduced in 2014 carries on in the same vein as its predecessors. That means it offers all the attractions of a supermini but in a car with a great big helping of style and panache that very few of its rivals come even close to rivalling. A good deal of this is down to the looks of the MINI hatch, but a lot is also due to the way the car drives with such verve. The only downside is the MINI is not as practical as many of its competitors.
MINI may have launched numerous versions of its style-driven small car, but it’s the three-door hatch that remains at the core of all it does. Launched in 2014 and revised in 2018, it’s the standard bearer in the supermini class for fun driving, cabin appeal and a spread of options that leaves its rival floundering by comparison.
Of course, all of this is for nothing if the MINI three-door hatch isn’t able to tick off the basics demanded by a supermini driver. So, despite those who still bemoan the fact this new interpretation of the MINI is far bigger than the 1950s original, it’s compact enough to cope with jam-packed city streets.
The MINI is also just about big enough inside now to deal with four passengers, whereas the first BMW-led MINI was really a 2+2 at best. Granted, the current car is still not going to win in a straight fight with key competitors for outright space, but the British-built hatch is just about good enough on this score.
Like some others in this class, MINI has now dropped its diesel engine offerings, so if you want to fill up from this pump you’ll need to look to the used market where there’s a vast choice of MINI hatches available. The present line-up is powered by a pair of Twinpower turbo petrol motors, each offered in different power outputs depending on which model you go for.
The One and Cooper share a 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine with 102PS for the base model and a sprightlier 136PS in the Cooper.
We’d take the Cooper every time unless you are on a strict budget. Move up to the Cooper S and it has a 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor with 192PS to put it into the heart of compact hot hatch territory. For those who want to see off the MINI’s performance rivals, the 231PS John Cooper Works model has the firepower and pace to do so.
You could also go another way with power for the MINI in the shape of the aptly named Electric. It comes with a 184PS electric motor that gives it similar performance to the petrol Cooper model but with zero tailpipe emissions. However, its 145-mile range between charges and hefty price tag, even by MINI standards, will put off as many as it attracts.
With any MINI, the appeal is as much about creating your own version of the car as it is about the more mundane practicalities of life. In this respect, the current MINI is much the same as those that went before it thanks to a raft of optional extras and upgrade packs for everything from the styling to the infotainment and even the way it handles.
This might not sell the MINI to those who simply want the most useful car for their needs, but there are lots of drivers out there who aspire to the MINI. Its premium image, fun drive and strong residual values see that it maintains this.

MINI Hatch 2024: Handling and ride quality
Any MINI Hatch delivers big on the handling and fun fronts, but what is surprising is how well it copes with poorly surfaced roads. The One and Cooper models offer the greatest ability to absorb crests and dips without compromising the controlled nature of the car. This is a rare gift in any car, never mind a supermini.
The Cooper S and John Cooper Works models with larger alloy wheels and sports tuned suspension have a correspondingly firmer ride. However, they are both still more than bearably good at dealing with rough roads.
If, on the other hand, you want more say in the suspension’s set-up, you can have the optional Adaptive Suspension for £600.
Helping the Cooper S and John Cooper Works models to get their power down is Performance Control that divides the power between whichever wheel has the most grip.
It has plenty of grip to make it fun and secure, even on slick wet roads, while the steering has more than enough feel and communication to keep keen drivers happy. For the rest of us, it’s light around town and stable on the motorway to be all things to all drivers.
MINI Hatch 2024: Engines
A 1.5-litre petrol engine comes in 105- and 136PS forms for the One and Cooper, respectively. The Cooper is the better bet for its more rounded performance, and each can be had with six-speed manual or seven-speed auto gearboxes.
The Coopers model’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder motor has 192PS. It sees off 0-62mph in 6.8 seconds, so it’s swift. Or, there’s John Cooper Works comes into the mix with its 231PS and 0-62mph in 6.3 seconds.
Then there’s the MINI Electric, which accelerates quickly and is smooth in use as there are no gears, just the seamless power of the electric motor. What takes time to master, though, is slowing down because as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator pedal the car slows markedly.
MINI Hatch 2024: Safety
A Euro NCAP score of 79 per cent for adult occupant safety is merely good rather than great for this class of car. Child occupant safety comes in at 73 per cent which is much more on a par with the MINI’s main rivals.
You do get ESP traction control, six airbags, plus in the back, there are Isofix child seat mounts fitted to both chairs.
All MINI Hatch models have Hill Assist and E-call. This will contact the emergency services in the event of a collision and the driver is unable to make that vital contact. Autonomous emergency braking is an option as part of the Driving Assistant System that adds £800 to the cost.

MINI Hatch 2024: Practicality
MINI has evolved the driver’s environment of the MINI to make it easier to use while keeping the character that draws people to the car. So, the speedo and rev counter dials are placed directly in front of the driver and the electric window switches are positioned on the door to makes the MINI more intuitive to use.
This generation of MINI has a lower-set driving position, which some might find tough on the knees when getting out, but it’s comfortable for most people. There’s plenty of adjustment for the seat, including for height, and the steering wheel. However, no amount of moving the seat and steering wheel can alter how thick the windscreen and other pillars are.
It does come with more generous amounts of space for those in the back than the previous generation model.
MINI Hatch 2024: Quality and finish
On looks alone, the MINI has all of its rivals well and truly beat, but it also gives them plenty to think about when it comes to quality of construction.
The materials used in the MINI where its occupants’ hands or feet come into contact with the car have a superior feel to its rivals. Even compared to BMW’s own mainstream models, the MINI can claim an advantage and it’s backed up the absences of squeaks or rattles from anywhere inside.
MINI Hatch 2024: Infotainment
The 6.5-inch colour display is standard in all versions of the MINI Hatch. It works well with the steering wheel controls to operate the DAB digital radio or music from your smartphone that can be accessed using Bluetooth. So far, so good.
If you want integrated satellite navigation, you need to fork out £900. To get the full suite of services that can be run through the MINI’s infotainment, though, you need to dig deeper and pay £2000 for the Navigation Plus Pack that uses a larger 8.8-inch screen. This serves up real-time traffic information and wireless phone charging. It also has Amazon Alexa included for hands-free voice control for many functions.

If you upgrade to a Cooper you’ll pay closer to £9000, while the Cooper S will need you dig deeper for its £11,500 starting price.
Should you want the John Cooper Works model, expect to start searching at the £15,000 mark for the quickest version of the MINI.
Although most MINI hatches sold have a petrol engine, there are those who need the added economy of a diesel motor. For them, the 1.5-litre Cooper D is the answer as it can return a claimed 74.3mpg. Examples of this MINI can be found readily from £6000 for a six-year old model with 55,000 miles.
If you’d rather have the more potent 2.0-litre turbodiesel in the Cooper SD, you’ll need to up your budget to £9000. That will get you a five-year old car with 50,000 miles and a few choice extras.
Speaking of optional extra equipment, used buyers will need to be sure any car they are considering has the necessary kit to keep them happy. While MINIs are better fitted out than they used be from new, plenty of desirable features remain part of options packs.
Move to nearly new and discounts are rare, so expect to pay close to the list price unless the car has already covered quite a few miles.
MINI Hatch 2024: Running Costs
Using Real MPG figures, the MINI One comes out at 43.7mpg. With a 40-litre fuel tank, this means you should be able to cover up to 380 miles on a single fill.
In the used market, the One D manages a Real MPG of 59.8mpg. Nowhere near its claimed 76.3mpg, but still useful if you have to cover big distances.
The lowest insurance rating the MINI can manage is group 13 for the One Classic. This might be just about bearable for a young driver, but group 20 for the Cooper and 28 for the Cooper S put them beyond the reach of anyone without some accrued no claims bonus.
Choose the John Cooper Works mod and it pushes into group 29, which is similar to most of its rapid hatch rivals.
First year VED rates for most MINI models fall into the 110-130g/km banding that will cost you £155 and then £150 for every year after that. However, the Cooper S with manual gearbox emits 139g/km, so you’ll be paying £215 for road tax in the first year. The John Cooper Works with the manual gearbox has a first-year bill of £540.

When choosing a MINI, you first decide between One, Cooper, Cooper S and John Cooper Works. You refine your decision by picking from Classic, Sport or Exclusive, with the Works model as a standalone choice.
All MINI Hatches have air conditioning and 6.5-inch infotainment screen, while the S and Works have their trademark bonnet scoop to set them apart. The Classic sits on 15-inch steel wheels for the One and alloy versions for the Cooper, while the S has 16-inchers. The S also has sports front seats and a leather-covered steering wheel.
Switch to Sport and you get 17-inch Works-style alloy wheels, body kit and rear spoiler. There are also Works sports front seats, steering wheel, anthracite headlining, cruise control and Performance Control added to the One and Cooper models.
With the Exclusive, there are different 17-inch alloy wheels, MINI Yours steering wheel, leather sports seats and a Chrome Line interior. This version also has cruise control with brake function. For the Works, you have its 17-inch Track Spoke alloys, Sports suspension, exhaust and upgraded brakes. Inside are sports seats finished in Dinamica and leather, multi-function steering wheel, gloss black trim inserts and MINI Driving Modes.

MINI unveils hatchback
A new LED display concept, the first of its kind, provides the driver with visual feedback whilst operating the car and creates a premium ambience.
Five new exterior colours have been added to MINI’s already extensive palette, while the roof and exterior mirror caps can be finished in a contrasting colour –black or white– as a no-cost option. Roof rails are available for the new MINI for the first time. Other ways of adding a touch of individual style include black or white bonnet stripes.
The new MINI’s exterior dimensions mean room for up to four occupants and their luggage, including enhanced shoulder space and larger footwells. The front seats have been given a wider adjustment range, and the base has been lengthened by 23mm for additional comfort and support. A choice of fabric or leather finishes, or a combination of both, is available. It’s also easier than ever for rear seat passengers to gain access to the back.
The rear bench seat back can be split 60:40. For greater practicality, the optional storage package includes a luggage compartment floor which can be locked into place at various points and the rear seat backrest features tilt-angle adjustment. Boot volume has been increased by more than 30 per cent to 211 litres. Numerous cupholders and storage facilities make life easier for occupants.
The central instrument now has extended functionality. Depending on the optional equipment chosen, it can serve as a four-line TFT display as standard or optional colour screen up to 8.8-inches showing vehicle functions, infotainment, navigation and MINI Connected services. Selection of these functions is performed via a choice of two new controllers, the MINI Controller or MINI Touch Controller, fitted in the centre console which come in conjunction with MINI Visual Boost Radio or the MINI Navigation System.
The new MINI Cooper Hatch has a three-cylinder chain cam petrol engine with a peak output of 134bhp. The new MINI Cooper S Hatch is powered by a four-cylinder petrol engine which develops 189bhp. The new MINI Cooper D Hatch comes with a three-cylinder chain diesel engine with an output of 114bhp. For fuel efficiency this has average combined economy of 80.7mpg using the EU test cycle. (The original MINI 1 1.2 litre engine is Peugeot's belt cam PureTech 1.2.)

MINI Cooper SD added
The 2.0-litre 4-cylinder B47 engine generates a peak torque output of 360Nm at 1,500rpm. It also boasts a power output of 170PS. New MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology has a turbocharging system with variable turbine geometry and common rail injection with magnet valve injectors operating at a maximum pressure of 2,000 bar. This combination of technology enables both highly spontaneous power delivery as well as a precisely controlled fuel supply.
Thanks to the pulling power of the new diesel engine, the MINI Cooper SD completes the sprint to 60 mph in 7 seconds. The optional 6-speed automatic transmission sees this figure drop to 6.9 seconds. Upgrades for MINI launched
LED headlights and foglights are now included in MINI’s flagship option pack, the MINI Chili Pack.
MINI customers will have the choice of two new option packs; MINI Tech Pack and MINI Yours Pack. Both of these packs allow drivers to customise their MINI for less.
Available on all MINI Hatch models, and the brand new MINI Convertible, the newly launched MINI Tech Pack includes MINI Head-Up-Display, a first for the small car segment. MINI Head-Up Display extends above the steering wheel, projecting the vehicle speed, media information or even satellite navigation instructions on an easy-to-read display. A rear-view reversing camera is included on models where it is not offered as standard.
MINI Head-Up Display is fully integrated with the 8.8 inch central display, also included in the Tech Pack, complete with 20g hardrive, 3D mapping and real-time traffic information. This also includes MINI Connected XL with its Journey Mate function, which allows drivers to map their journey with way points and reminders before even getting into the car.
MINI Connected is also fully compatible with Spotify, controlled directly via the MINI Controller. A 12-speaker Harman Kardon stereo system combines two under seat subwoofers with five mid-range speakers and five tweeters.

MINI 1499 GT launched
De-tuned insurance friendly 1499cc 4-cylinder turbo engine with 102PS gives 0-62mph in 10.1 seconds. On the road pricing starts at £16,990. MINI Ready Fuel Go finance package included one year’s insurance (subject to terms) with a £299 customer deposit and £299 monthly payment. Limited production of 1,499 cars between November 2017 and February 2018.
The car comes on sports suspension and a choice of two colours: Pepper White or Midnight Black. In Midnight Black, the car gets distinctive gold 1499 GT side stripes. Pepper White models feature the same distinctive graphics, but in black. Additional exterior features include the MINI John Cooper Works Sport Pack, featuring 17” Track Spoke alloy wheels in Black, dark tinted windows and white indicator lenses. The styling pack includes distinctive John Cooper Works front and rear bumpers, side skirts, a split level spoiler and John Cooper Works door entry plates.

New DCT auto introduced
7-speed Getrag Dual Clutch Transmission replaced 6-speed torque converter automatic option. The DCT is operated by a newly designed electronic selector lever. This new selector lever always returns to its original position after changing between driving mode D, neutral position N and reverse mode. The parking lock is activated by pressing the P button. S mode can be activated by shifting the selector lever to the left from position D, allowing the driver manual intervention. The Getrag 7-speed DCT is electronically operated, not hydraulically operated like a VAG DSG. No paddleshifts initially.

Further developed engines and increased capacity and torque for MINI One. (The 3-cylinder petrol engine in the MINI One is now the BMW chain cam 1.5 instead of the Peugeot belt cam 1.2, increasing maximum torque by 10 Nm, taking it to 190 Nm.)
Using the satellite navigation data and the car’s inbuilt camera systems, the stop/start can be intelligently controlled to identify situations in which it is better not to switch off the engine: for example when stopping briefly before making a turn or entering a roundabout, or if the traffic ahead has started moving again.

MINI gets new trim line-up
Classic, Sport and Exclusive are new styles, each offering increased standard specification and a shortcut to a distinctive interior and exterior character of their choice.
The range starts with Classic. This gets a 6.5-inch colour infotainment screen, intelligent emergency call, DAB digital radio and Bluetooth connectivity is standard on all models. Standard specification across the range has been enhanced with the introduction of Classic, which now also includes ambient lighting, exterior MINI logo projection and automatic headlights with rain sensor.
Sport models includes John Cooper Works Aerodynamic Kit and Spoiler, John Cooper Works Alloy Wheels, Sports Suspension, John Cooper Works Bucket Seats, John Cooper Works Steering Wheel and anthracite interior headliner. Sport models are available in combination with Cooper and Cooper S engines.
Exclusive builds on the Classic model specification with upgraded ‘Exclusive’ alloy wheels, chrome line exterior finish, MINI Yours Lounge leather upholstery, MINI Yours leather steering wheel, MINI Yours interior trim and interior chrome line finish. MINI 60 Years Edition launched to celebrate 60th anniversary
New MINI 60 Years Edition is a limited run of 500 cars for the UK. Available exclusively with an automatic gearbox, the special edition model features a new British Racing Green IV paint finish and piano black exterior trim, black roof and exterior mirror caps, special anniversary design bonnet stripes and model exclusive 17-inch light alloy wheels in 60 Years Spoke two-tone.
The 60 Years emblem completes the vehicle, uniquely placed on the left-hand bonnet stripe, side scuttles of the turn indicators and LED logo projection from the driver’s door. Every model in the UK will be sold with an additional set of MINI spot lamps fitted to the front radiator grille.
The limited edition vehicle has a distinctly designed interior with model specific finishes using the 60 Years emblem, including the steering wheel and front seats. The seats are finished with MINI Yours Leather Lounge in Dark Cacao with contrast seat stitching and piping matching the new exterior paintwork– an exclusive leather for this vehicle.
Navigation Plus pack is included, providing a larger 8.8” touch display with Satellite Navigation, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity, concierge service and wireless charging. In addition, a rear view camera, folding exterior mirrors and front and rear Park Distance Control (PDC) can be found on the vehicle, courtesy of the Comfort Plus Pack.
A limited run of 500 MINI 60 Years Edition vehicles will be available in the UK from March 2019, priced at £29,990 OTR.

MINI range udpdated for 2021
The refreshed exterior of the MINI 3-Door Hatch, MINI Electric, MINI 5-Door Hatch and MINI Convertible models looks more modern, with more attention now focussed on the car’s central design features. The front-view is dominated by a larger radiator grille and its black, hexagonal surround, and the hallmark round MINI headlights. The position lights have been replaced by vertical air inlets to optimise aerodynamics and the central bumper strip is now in body colour, rather than black. The wheel arch has new contours, the side indicators have been redesigned to feature LED technology and at the back of the car, the fog light is now integrated into the rear apron as a narrow LED unit.
Adding to an expansive colour pallet, customers can now choose from three additional exterior body colours. Rooftop Grey is now available on all models, with customers also now able to choose Island Blue (previously only available on MINI Countryman) and the MINI Convertible gets an exclusive colour option with Zesty Yellow.
As part of the Piano Black Exterior option, the door handles, side scuttles, fuel cap, MINI logo on the bonnet and luggage compartment lid and model lettering and tailpipes of the exhaust system are now finished in high-gloss black, in addition to the surrounds of the headlights, radiator grille and rear lights.
Customers can also choose from five new wheels across all models, with Tentacle Spoke black design, Scissor Spoke (previously available on MINI Sidewalk Convertible only) and Pedal Spoke now being offered in 17-inch wheels. Pulse Spoke design and John Cooper Works wheels in Circuit Spoke black design are now offered in 18-inch options.
The redesigned interior of the MINI 3-Door Hatch, MINI Electric, MINI 5-Door Hatch and MINI Convertible is sophisticated and modern. An 8.8-inch colour touchscreen display and Piano Black high-gloss surface are now standard and the audio control unit and function buttons for hazard warning lights and driver assistance systems are integrated more harmoniously into the circular control unit.
Chrome elements have been significantly reduced throughout the interior with the two outer air outlets framed by black panels. The internal air vents have been completely redesigned and are now embedded to be flush with the interior surface.
A newly-designed sports leather steering wheel with multifunction buttons will be part of the standard equipment of all model variants of the MINI 3-Door Hatch, MINI Electric, MINI 5-Door Hatch and MINI Convertible. A new structure for the keypads optimises operation of the audio and telephone functions, voice control and driver assistance systems.
The digital display behind the steering wheel, already offered on the MINI John Cooper Works GP and MINI Electric, is now offered as standard on all new MINI 3-Door Hatch, MINI 5-Door Hatch and MINI Convertible models. The digital display in black panel design has a 5-inch diameter and shows key driving information, check-control messages and status displays of the driver assistance systems. In the MINI Electric, it also serves as a charging status indicator while connected to the power grid.
There is a choice of two colour schemes for the central instrument and digital cockpit displays, which can be selected in the control system menu. In "Lounge" mode, the content is displayed in a relaxing colour setting ranging between turquoise and petrol blue. If "Sport" mode is active, the screen backgrounds are red and anthracite.
The MINI Classic, Sport & Exclusive trim packages have also been extended, offering customers a wider choice of exterior body colours, safety features and upholstery. Sport models now offer Intelligent Adaptive Suspension as standard, Piano Black Exterior, Chilli Red body colour, additional John Cooper Works badging and Dinamica Leather upholstery. Rear Park Distance Control is also included as standard.
Customers choosing the Exclusive trim, will now benefit from Enigmatic Black exterior colour, Anthracite Headlining, Rear Park Distance Control and Driving Modes. The MINI Yours Union Jack Soft-top roof on the MINI Convertible is standard.
A handful of individual options have been added to the line-up for the MINI Electric, allowing customers to further personalise their choice of Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3. For customers selecting Level 2, they can now add Roof Rails, Active Cruise Controller and Sun Protection Glass, as well as the new Piano Black Exterior. Those opting for Level 3 also have the option of adding Satellite Grey Leather upholstery.
Powerful and efficient petrol engines with three or four cylinders constitute the drive portfolio for the MINI 3-Door Hatch, the MINI 5-Door Hatch and the MINI Convertible. Their MINI TwinPower Turbo technology is made up of a turbocharging unit integrated into the exhaust manifold, direct petrol injection and variable valve timing. The 3-cylinder engines, each with a capacity of 1.5 litres, are available in two versions, with outputs ranging from 75 kW/102 hp to 100 kW/136 hp. The 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine generates a maximum output of 131 kW/178 hp or 170 kW/231 hp in the two John Cooper Works models. Thanks to consistently optimised emission control technology, which includes a petrol engine particulate filter, all model variants comply with the Euro 6d emission standard.
The combustion engines of the MINI 3-Door Hatch, MINI 5-Door Hatch and MINI Convertible are combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard.

MINI Shadow Edition launched
Offered exclusively to the UK market, the Shadow Edition comes with a higher standard specification, focuses on blacked out features and edition-exclusive bonnet design and graphics.
The new Shadow Edition has a Midnight Black metallic exterior paint colour, with contrasting Silver roof and mirror caps and Piano Black Exterior, creating a dramatic and streamlined look.
Customers can choose an all-electric powertrain with the MINI Electric, or between Cooper and Cooper S engines, in both manual and automatic transmission on the MINI Hatch and MINI Convertible models
The Shadow Edition for MINI Hatch and Convertible is based on the Sport trim level, including 18” John Cooper Works Course Spoke alloy wheels, Silver roof and mirror caps, John Cooper Works aerodynamic kit including John Cooper Works spoiler, and LED front and rear lights.
The MINI Electric Shadow Edition is based on the Level 3 model and comes with 17” Tentacle Spoke alloy wheels as standard, alongside Piano Black Exterior and Midnight Black metallic roof and mirror caps.
All models benefit from special edition graphics on the bonnet, integrated scuttle trim and the A-panel, while MINI Hatch also includes the Shadow logo on the lower roof.
Inside, the Shadow Edition has Anthracite headlining and a Piano Black trim with both the dash trim and tread plates also featuring special graphics. John Cooper Works sport seats and a sports leather steering wheel with contrast stitching in Chili Red complete the interior design.
Continuing the high standard specification, the Shadow Edition comes equipped with an 8.8” infotainment screen with MINI Connected, Bluetooth with USB audio, Rain sensor and automatic headlight activation, LED headlights and rear lights and Intelligent emergency calling (E-Call). Comfort Pack, Comfort Plus Pack and Navigation Plus Pack, which includes Wireless Charging and Head Up Display, are all optional.

MINI Resolute Edition announced
The MINI Resolute Edition is now available to order on the MINI 3-Door Hatch, MINI Electric, MINI 5-Door Hatch and MINI Convertible models.
Customers can tailor each new MINI edition to suit their personal needs and requirements, combining them with the available Comfort, Driver Assistance and Navigation equipment packages. Individual options such as Steptronic sport transmission, adaptive chassis, Harman Kardon HiFi speaker system or the panoramic glass roof can also be specified on the different models.
The MINI Resolute Edition's exclusive design features make up a carefully crafted package for premium exterior and interior style. They also tie in particularly harmoniously with the clear and purist MINI design language and reinforce the hallmark characteristics of the small MINI models.
On the exterior the edition has a traditional-style colour scheme in Rebel Green, previously available exclusively on the sportiest John Cooper Works models, combined with a Pepper White roof finish and exterior mirror caps on the MINI 3-Door Hatch, MINI Electric and MINI 5-Door Hatch. On the MINI Convertible Resolute Edition, the soft top and exterior mirror caps are finished in black. All chrome elements are removed on the outside, which will be standard on future MINI models.
Hallmark design features are finished in exclusive Resolute Bronze. This includes the headlight surrounds, radiator grille, rear lights, side scuttles, door handles and tailgate. On the MINI Cooper S, the air intakes in the front apron and the fuel cap are also bronze. The brand logos and model lettering provide a Piano Black contrast across all models. On the MINI Cooper S, the inner frame of the radiator grille, tailpipe trim and horizontal radiator grille strut are also Piano Black. On the MINI 3-Door Hatch, MINI Electric and MINI 5-Door Hatch, there is also a Black Waistline Finisher that runs along the lower edge of the windows.
The bonnet stripes and door sill panels of the edition vehicle feature a pattern of parallel lines with a gold colour gradient and the lettering "RESOLUTE". The subtle sporty appearance of the edition is completed with 18-inch alloy wheels in the Pulse Spoke Black design. The MINI Electric features 17-inch alloy wheels in Electric Collection Spoke design. 17-inch alloy wheels in Tentacle Spoke Black design are also offered across all models.
The exclusive interior of the Resolute Edition models is enhanced by sports seats in Black Pearl / Light Chequered fabric/leatherette, which are combined with black armrests and knee rolls. This colour scheme harmonises with the Rebel Green paint finish and the black and gold exterior design features. The MINI Yours Leather Lounge option is available on request in Carbon Black with striking stitching and piping and a perforated Union Jack motif on the headrests. The Nappa sports leather steering wheel has an edition emblem on the lower spoke, and the roofliner of the MINI 3-Door Hatch, MINI Electric and MINI 5-Door Hatch is in anthracite.
The interior surfaces on the Resolute Edition emphasise the cars’ premium style. Parallel and evenly curved lines in a light shade of gold form a pinstripe pattern on the black background of the surfaces, reflecting the pattern of the bonnet stripes. These design features are highlighted with interior LED lighting and the Ambient Light package, which has a laser-engraved ring around the central instrument, light piping in the doors and cockpit area and illuminated door handles and door entry. The MINI Driving Modes are also included as part of the edition equipment package.
The classic sporty flair of the colours and materials on the interior is combined with advanced digital technology. The latest generation of the MINI operating system optimises the quick and intuitive control of vehicle functions, audio programme, communication, navigation and apps. Live widgets on the 8.-inch touch display of the central instrument are used to activate each menu item, which can be selected by swiping.

14-08-2017:Report of problem with opening sunroof of 2017 MINI Cooper S. Opened, but would not close. BMW MINI replaced the enntire sunroof structure.
02-09-2017:Report of March 2015 MINI Cooper being recalled in March 2015 for 'software updates'. Owner told a "new part" had been ordered for it. Car called back in during July 2017 to fit the "new part", which turned out to be a new engine.
27-09-2017:Report of electric power steering of 59k mile 2014 MINI Cooper going "lumpy" after starting and at low speeds. Dealer wanted £126 (hourly rate) to diagnose the issue. Put it through one hour of diagnostics to find voltage wasn't getting through from the battery that was faulty (after 42 months). So £327 for the 'diagnostics', labour and battery.
05-11-2017:Report of rear brake of 27,000 mile 2015 MINI Cooper D locking on. Dealer eventually replaced the rear calliper, but brake still intermittently locks on. Suspect the parking brake mechanism.
13-04-2018:Report of lacquer over paint on front bumper and roof of 17 reg MINI One starting to peel. But owner did write that the car had been "professionally cleaned", begging the question as to what kind of degreasers the professional cleaner had been using.
23-07-2018:Report of December 2014 MINI One 1.2 needing a new clutch and dual mass flywheel at 21,000 miles. Apparently clutch cannot be replaced without also replacing the DMF. Cost was £2,000.
14-08-2018:Report of engine warning light coming on in 2015 MINI at 6000 miles. Mobile technician diagnosed failed camshaft position sensor. Fault turned out to be caused by emulsified engine oil caused by driving profile of too many short journeys and insufficiently regular oil and filter changes and not covered by warranty. Owner hit with a bill of £579.58 to fix it.
11-11-2018:Report of water in boot of 2016 MINI Cooper. Supposed to have been fixed in November 2017 but problem has returned and a new hatchback seal is now on order from Germany. (Seems strange because MINIs are buit at Oxford.)
20-11-2018:Report of faulty central display in 2014 MINI Cooper bought independently. "The computer boots up and then fails so tries to restart again and again and again. MINI dealer quoted £1,200 to repair. No contribution from MINI because car was bought independently with an independent warranty. Warranty will contribute £250. But if car was bought within 6 months the independent dealer is liable.

26-05-2019:Report of clutch warning light illuminating in 2016 MINI Cooper convertible a 19,000 miles. Diagnostic trsts showed clutcdh was ok and fault code was deleted. Then brake pad warning light illuminated. Car taken to official MINI centre who said clutch was slipping and investigation would cost £600; replacement of clutch £2,000. Owner's driving blamed.
28-06-2019:Report of clutch failure on leased September 2017 MINI One (1,499cc) at 15,000 miles. Lessee asked to pay £1777.67 to replace ithe clutch.

26-11-2019:Report of brakes failing when parking in a new (5 week old) MINI automatic with the new 7-speed Getrag electronically operated DCT transmission. Minor damage to the front of the car.
04-12-2019:Report of multiple fault codes after engine warning light appeared on 32k mile December 2015 MINI Cooper D. Local garage diagnostics uncovered 14 faults, 12 of which have disappeared. Two remain: 26CF00 (Fuel pre supply pressure control too low) and 24CF00 (measured air mass too low compared with calculated air mass). Diesel has leaked into the wiring looms and the ECU. Owner is looking at repair costs of over £3k (£2k on parts plus £1k plus on labour).

Dealer reported that the message is due to a total failure of the wiring loom due to water from the windscreen washers. Dealer said that they are dealing with about one car each month due to this issue. He said that the plastic covering of the wiring has been failing on minis and BMWs of this age. MINI customer services agreed to meet the labour costs of the replacement but not the cost of the new wiring loom. They also said that the MINI Insured warranty would not cover the replacement as it was due to "water ingress". They said that this would not happen again as they had improved the part on newer models. Might be due to the screenwash additive the owner has been using.
