All - E10 -not a boring government form but new biofuel - Ethan Edwards

Seems the Government is keen on introducing E10 biofuel. Thats 10% Ethanol mixed with regular unleaded.

My question is does anyone have any idea if their old car will run on this stuff? Or will it dissolve the fuel system from within? Cos I don't.

A bit of googling mainly from australian sites suggests my 2003 Xtrail will run on it but Nissan do NOT recommend it. If it was a 2004 car Nissan say it would be fine. So it's yet another stealth way of ordering us to ditch perfectly good vehicles in thrall to idiotic Gaia worship.

How typical of HMG to find yet another way to screw the motorist. Payout for expensive repairs and get less MPG while paying for the privilege or scrap your car.

I'd like to see all our politicians dragged out and lynched by an old fashioned rampaging mob, pitchforks and burning torches. it's about what they deserve.

E10 has been out in Germany for around 18months or more some cars can use it others not it has not been well received and sales are very poor.I my self have never used it although my fleet of bangers(3) all will run on it its around 5cents a litre cheaper than super 95 whether its old habits , an aversion to something different or is there a technical problems with the product that will not show up straight away?I suppose its a logical follow on to bio diesel the Brasilians have been running on bio fuels for years without to many problems the main downside I can see is that it is made from rape seed and vast swathes of land throughout the world are starting to grow this cash crop in preference to food crops.

Plenty of issues with using modern petrol in older cars documented on various sites. Allegedly Ethanol does not like brass bits in fuel systems and from personal experience I know that rubber hoses do not like modern fuels of any description. There are rubber hoses that are suitable for fuels containing modern additives including ethanol, its called R9 spec. But try and find some in this country, most of what is available is cheap Chinese stuff with E9 stamped on, it still rots away after 3 years. Plenty of good R9 available in the States fom gates, Goodyear etc, they have been using Ethanol in fuels for years, but its all imperial, good for really old cars, no use on modern classics.
