i tow a caravan and after a little more power. im thinking there are too many miles on the clock? but i do an oil change every 6-8k anyway, so maybe not too bad?

what do you think?

In my opinion the implications with insurance and the DVLA its not worth the risk.

Given the towing limit of the Focus 1.6 TDCi (1200kg) and the kerbweight (around 1400kg) both versions of that engine should tow a suitable caravan quite adequately in standard form.

Maybe the caravan is too big/heavy for the car ?

Chipping is for playtime, not towing.

Ever wondered why truck engines have a low specific output?

[hint: it's not because the drivers enjoy accelerating slowly]

Forget all about chipping this engine, its already got a reputation for fragility, and at this mileage it will be nicely bedded in. changing things will likely bring about its destuction.

Change it for a 2.0 TDCI if you need more power, much better.

if you keep it make sure you change the oil very regularly and use good quality stuff, otherwise the EGR valve soots up and b&ggers the turbo.
