Has 'Check Emissions' with engine motif, engine running poorly with a slight judder when accellerating doesn't like 5th gear, changed plugs no better any ideas?

Renault Grand Scenic 1600 - Engine not running smoothly - Collos25

A light comes on which says check emissions the engine runs rough and you change the plugs I suppose if a light comes on the dashboard to change the plugs you will change the Lamda or cat.

Ignore this piffle. Too many opinionated a$$holes on this forum

This engine has a number of sensors, that could be at fault and it also has a diagnostic port under a plastic panel between the front seats.

Take it to any garage, and ask them to read the car's system for the fault code. this will indicate what is causing the problem.

I had something similar with this car, 1600 petrol Grand Scenic, and it was just a faulty sensor, fifty quid and that fixed it.

Had the Scenic for 5 years and this was the only bother we had with it. otherewise was an excellent car.

None bigger than you my friend.

If light comes on telling you there is a fault in part of the engine would look firstly elsewhere or would look at what it it was telling you or perhaps change the tyres . Idiot.

Excuse me, but when the OP comes on here looking for genuine advice, how can it possibly be helpful or even polite to just pour scorn on them, denigrating their question ?

Is it really all about making yourself feel better by bullying somebody you think has inferior technical knowledge to yourselves ?

Surely a forum like this is about helping one's fellow motorists not picking holes in everything they say.

I note that many new members never come back on here after such bad treatment at the hands of the few regulars.

In stark contrast, many of the specialist forums like talk Ford etc are much more friendly and welcoming, therefore more likely to flourish, whilst this once great forum becomes the last refuge of a few cantankerous sad old men.

Why bother coming here then.some of maybe sad and maybe old but we have more more motoring knowledge in our little fingures than you will gain even if you live to be thousand. If you noticed I enentually advised the OP to check the Lamda or the cat what did you advice and expensive trip to the garage to read the ECU which would through up a lot of irelevant faults which no doubt the garage would charge for fixing.

To be fair Collos 25, you could have taken just a couple more minutes to explain more clearly what you were trying to put across. I had some difficulty in understanding the above and still do ......! And I am mechanically literate btw.

The most common fault when an emmisions light comes on the dashboard of a Renault is exactly what it says it is (one of the few things that is quite specific on Renaults)and is normally cured by replacing the Lamda or the cat.Not having seen the car it could also be a thousand different things depending how the car has been looked after and driven.

There you go again making bullying, belittling remarks, you have no possible way of knowing anything about my mechanical knowledge.

Modern vehicles have a diagnostic port, and any reputable garage has a code reader, if this system does not work, why are all cars fitted with them, and all garages equipped with a reader ?

Before touching any modern car with a spanner I would get the fault code read, and when I had this same problem with this same car, that was the course of action I took, which saw the problem solved for minimal outlay. I was advising the OP to do the same.

You really do show your ignorance.

You should learn a little more about OBD1 , OBD11 and Can Buz and different manufacturers way of coding the info such as Planet or World you plug all the readers you want into a BMW but unless you have the correct BMW software (very expensive and hard to get hold of)then you are urinating in the wind. This goes for just about every manufacturer some info is common across the board but it is only basic info.

Once again, no need for your bullying remarks.

I am not proclaiming to be an expert on every technical aspect aspect of every motor vehicle on the road. Nor are we discussing BMW's software. the OP asked about an issue with his Renault, of which I had the same experience.

A Renault specialist or any Bosch workshop will have a code reader that they can plug into a RENAULT, which is the subject of the post. this will give the error code for the problem, and identify which sensor is failing.

The fact is that I think he will need to be prepared to take it to a garage to solve the problem, or do you expect him to start dismantling his Exhaust system in he street ? on the basis of your say so ?

If I were you I'd stick to dismantling Hillman Avengers in your front garden.

Again you are showing your ignorance of the problem a code reader even if it has the proper Renault software will not show all faults or will show faults that have been historic or show faults that are not really faults but show as such because there is some other complication further up the line. The skill is knowing what is a real fault and what is one brought on by other problems something you will never learn.

For your information I haven´t touched an Avenger since the early eighties when I welded a new inner wing and bulkhead into one for the MOT.I do have two BMWs and a Peugeot 307 and I live in Germany anything else you want to know please ask but leave cars alone because you will never learn the inner workings of the combustion engine just keep taking your car to the local Bosch or Renault agents and let them look after it it safer that way.

Great thanks !! I'd rather not mess with something I am not 100% sure about.
