Jaguar XJ6 - LPG Conversions - PaulFM

Having spent many years with economical? cars, In my dotage I have decided to have something comfortable for the next few years.

I have an XJ6 which is beautiful, comfortable and not at all green.

I want to get the car converted to LPG but I need to find someone in the Birmingahm area who has had a conversion which they are satisfied with and the name of a good garage for the conversion. I keep hearing horror stories and do not want to end up in the mire.

Thanks PaulFM

Hi PaulFM

My experience of LPG is as follows - I purchased my company Toyota Avensis in 2010 after the company I work for stopped issuing us with company cars and introduced a cash allowance.

After doing a bit of research, I had the car converted at Hilton Autogas which is just off J11 of the M6. The service I received was excellent and I have never regretted the decision. The car was converted at 75k and has now done 130k without missing a beat. It’s pretty economical for a petrol engine anyhow and with paying under 70p per litre for gas I’m not planning on getting rid of it any time soon.

I had a Prins system fitted with valve care. There are lots of cheaper systems about but I read a lot of horror stories and pleased I paid for a quality system.

You need to consider where you will fit the tank. I have mine where the spare wheel was, so I have to carry the wheel in a bag in the boot which reduces boot space. In addition, you need to give more thought for longer journeys as LPG is not as widely available and prices between garages can vary hugely.

Do your homework and you won’t regret it…

Rob
