Volkswagon Golf S 04 - Steering Wheel Won't Lock VW Golf S 2004 - chris34720

Hi guys

recently just had my ECU repaired due to a fried circuit board because some idiot i know decided not to put the jump leads on right when i let them use my car to jump start theirs. cost me about £575 in total for a full service aswell so not sure if thats cheap really for a repair on the ecu and a full service plus a fuel pump relay

Recently though my steering will not lock and it feels really light, like i can full lock the wheels with the engine not running and the key out of the ignition, today i had a problem getting my engine to start like the wheel had locked and you needed to nudge it to the left or right a little before turning the ignition on

i do not understand why this happened when the wheel was unlocked

whats the problem does anyone know ?

Car drives fine by the way

You have some electrical problems there, the car is not shutting down and the steering (which is electric) thinks the engine is running. If someone asks me to jump start their car I politely refuse citing 100's of cases of what you have experienced. You are going to have to get the car to a dedicated and highly experienced VAG specialist or a VW dealer. For me this is such a worry that to avoid having to try and explain, I keep a Halfords jump starter pack at home because all my neighbours know I am a mechanic and as soon as their car won't start they come knocking.

Well i took it to a mechanic i know today and when i go to his house i turned engine off as i parked up as he was going to have a look at the steering and for some reason my key wont come out of the ignition now

Appears my ignition barrel or something is frigged cant remember what he said hes going to strip the steering wheel to get to the thing to release the key just waiting for new parts now though

Have to leave the key in the car overnight but hes immobilized it so its not going anywhere hopefully will be sorted tommorow

Thanks for your reply
