Citroen Xsara Picasso - accelorator sticking - otis1

I own an Exclusive (automatic) 04. Yesterday the accelorator stuck at (racing) high revs 3 times; once with my grandson in the car. Thankfully I was going under 30 mph; put into neutral and turned off engine. Put on hazards and drove into kerb.

Took to garage today; they've done diagnostic check but report nothing wrong. A mechanic is driving from/to work to see if it goes wrong with him.

have you heard of this before? Mat was not stuck under pedal; normal shoes; nothing out of the ordinary. Pedal was not fully down but engine was racing.

Citroen Xsara Picasso - accelorator sticking - unthrottled

Happened to me a couple of times. Mine is a top hung pedal that operates a bowden cable, so it's not an actuator problem. Because the pedal is top mounted, it is a simple task to hook your toe underneath it and retract it manually-still irritating though.

I never got to the bottom of it. The problem always disappeared after the car cooled down. I sprayed some WD40 everywhere around the pedal assembly-it hasn't happened since, but this is probably a placebo effect!

One possibility is the throttle cable might be catching in the outer sheaf. A completely new cable would need fitting.

Otherwise suspect the Idle Control Valve.
