Nissan Qashqai 1.5dci - Fuel pressure regulator and starting/running prob - Steve Velocette Venom

The fuel pressure regulator sensor failed (P1089 & P0087) on my 1.5dci Qashqai. The garage couldn’t buy the sensor on its own so had to replace the whole pump (£1510 inc labour). Since then the car has been back to the garage three times. They do something and it’s all OK for about a week.

This is a cold start problem, everything is OK when hot. From cold the car starts perfectly but stops after about five seconds and then can’t be started unless I wait for about ten minutes, then starts with difficulty. When the problem exists, I can start the car and immediately push the accelerator to about 1500rpm for about fifteen seconds and the car stays running.

The fuel rail has been cleaned several times and they have checked for air leaks and fitted new grommets to the fuel filter.

HELP. Do you have any ideas? This is just a bog standard Renault diesel engine.

Hi,

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? i have exactly the same problem!

We are having this problem with our 1.5 accenta. Would be grateful if anyone could help as our mechanic is stumped

I'd be looking at live data fuel rail pressure for clues,

not much help for you if your garage doesn't have a 'scope.

there's just too many possiblities for these codes to randomly pick one!

Are these cars still in warranty? Nissan may have a TSB for the problem.

cheers

Also having the same problem with my 2009 1.5dci.

Have you got anywhere with it Printer Pat?

Many Thanks

High fuel pressure - Low fuel pressure - Damaged FRP sensor - Excessive resistance in the circuit - Low or no fuel - Wiring harness connector of the fuel pressure sensor - Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor -

I've had the same problem I have had the regulator changed on my pump and new glow plugs so far so good. I bought a pump from breakers yard as it was cheaper getting it that way. Hope this helps

Just wondering if everyone here only had this fault when the temperature was below 10c and the car had been left overnight to cool down.

I've been having the issue of my 09 Qashqai (1.5ltr) starting and stalling after a few seconds. I have replaced the battery, glow plugs and cleanered the egr valve. Yesterday it started fine, but this morning it very nearly stalled after a few seconds and also sounded very dieselly with a slight knocking noise. If I can get it to warm up, then it is fine for the rest of the day (except for a few weeks ago, when it was cold by day and I left it outside work all day).

Any help and ideas would be greatfully appreciated. The one time I called the RAC out, it stalled twice in front of them and after hearing the knocking noise he said that was the injectors, but also said there has been a previous code on the car with the fuel regulator (apparently marked as fixed) being at fault, so it could be that.

Having the Same issue. I have had two codes one with Nissan P1090 and P0089 with the Rac on my Nissan 2009 QQ 1.5.. When Nissan plugged in the P0089 said unknown and P1090 said FPS sensor I tried a used sensor but the code came back on. I'm hoping it's not the pump. Oh and code on the rac come up as fuel pressure regulater performance 1. Does anyone know of the regulater can be changed on its own without getting the whole pump? They did say it's running ok and couldn't here anything and also the injectors were good to. Thinking of selling it as its doing my head in driving about in limp mode

Hi, Sorry to dig up an old post but did anyone every get to the bottom of this issue? I have exactly the same issue going on at the moment.

Thanks in advance

Hi, have you got to the bottom of yours?

We have a 2010 1.5dci.

Car turns over but won't fire, and now been told its the fuel pressure regulator and being quoted circa £1300?

Hello there ! £1300 for Fuel Press. Regulator ???

My 2007 Nissan Qashqai gave me a hard time starting. My Advice:-

1.. Start with Fuel Injectors return Flow. This test will tell you if any Injector is bad.

2.. Get OBD codes, Determine Common Rail pressure...If it it does not reach the minimum, car will not start. Sensor on the common rail, I bought one from AliExpress, China for USD $ 25.00. I also replaced the Fuel Pressure Regulator which is mounted on the back of the Pump, again from China, USD $ 35.00

3.. If you see good pressure ( whilst cranking) at the Common rail, it is not the PUMP.

4.. Whilst cranking, you should see RPM needle jumping, This indicates :- Crankshaft sensor (which reads the No 1 cylinder position ) is working. And Camshaft position sensor ( which reads the No 1 cylinder Valve position ) is working.

5.. If your Battery is not strong enough, no chance !!

6.. I found out the hard way ( all my connectors are brittle) , they have to snug in tight to all sensors. Otherwise, not very good contact, NO START

7.. Finally, I did get my car started, now running very well.

8.. Considering, I installed a few new parts:-

Timing Belt/ Belt tensioner/ Auxillary Belt/ Common Rail sensor/ Fuel pressure Regulator/ Camshaft sensor/ Crankshaft sensor/ Head off, new Valves/

Cleaned all pipes, full of carbon, Luckily I know how to repair TURBOS.

Stripped the Turbo, replaced VNT ( from China, USD 65.00) , assembled, works like new

Found out 1.5dci are very sensitive engines, All pipes have to be fitted, no leaks, CAR SHOULD START.
