When you say you broke down. Did this scenic cut out whilst driving or was this non start after sitting for a few hours. If you say the scenic drives fine when running then i wouldn't imagine there would be any dirty or contaminated fuel in tank. The first thing i would do is to replace fuel filter with a genuine renault one.Can you get back Keith Hth Regards mickeybo

The fault you describe is similar to the fault common on the Fiesta 1.4Tdci, although the 'injector fault' code is not shown on the Fiesta. The failure to start with the Fiesta is caused usually by a cracked plastic fuel pipe near to the primer bulb, in turn caused by the pipe vibrating because it's not properly fastened to the bracket. Strangely, this does not cause a noticable fuel leak, but allows air in when parked. the fuel runs back to the tank and the car will only start when the primer bulb is pumped. I've also heard of a fuel filter problem causing this. It seems one make of fuel filter can leak air around the plasic welded join where the top plate with the nozzles is connected to the body of the filter. So - if this helps - try to check for air leaks - cracked fuel pipe or loose connector, perhaps?

mickey,

car had been sitting all day at work, when i finished i jumped in to start,it started reversed about 6feet then cut out, would not start again as only turning over, called rac, they came out squeezed the fuel primer 4 or 5 times then it started, drove fine home, next day was fine, day after it did it again but i primed it again and it started, yesterday car started but after 1/4 mile INJECTION FAULT / STOP message came on dash,i then stop switched off and back on again and car has been fine since.

it only seems to happen if car has been sitting lenghty periods of time.

an aftermarket fuel filter was fitted about 3000 miles ago.

im missing some engine bolts, would anybody know where i can get replacements.

If you take one out and go to a nut and bolt stockists they may be able to match the length/thread/material, probably cheaper than from your friendly Renault dealer.

well folks, genuine filter did not do the job, still cutting out and getting injection fault messages,i have been told by garage that it now could be a sensor which is away and could cost £175 + upwards.

car will start ok if i rev over 3k as it will not cut out,any ideas what this ongoing problem could be.

I have the exact same problem. What I have found as well is this...i have a slopped drive which I park my 1.9 dci on at night and I have found if I park it with tail end backed down then I always have to prime the pump manually to start the engine. However,if I park it engine/nose end facing downwards then it will start first time every time...BUT when I do park it this way I have noticed I get a small fuel leak as I see the patch on my drive. Maybe this will be a clue as to exactly what's causing the fault?.
Please let me know if anyone could tell me why this is happening,
Thanks,
Dean

I've replaced the fuel tubing on mine with clear type so that I can see if there are air bubbles in the fuel, the pipe on mine was opaque. If the fuel drains back due to a leak the engine could run for just a few seconds until it exhausts what's in the pump itself - this happened to me after replacing the alternator which disturbed the fuel pipe. It could be that the primer bulb is faulty and needs replacing. I'd say it's all down to an air leak. This is the easiest and cheapest thing to deal with first.

You need to look to see where the fuel is leaking from when the car is facing down hill.

That will also be where the air is getting into the fuel at other times.
