I have just received a speeding ticket from the Catalan authoriies. Helpfully it is in Catalan!

I managed to find a translated web site, enter my details and track down my ticket. However when I hit the payment button it says it is trying to connect to a bank but nothing happens.

I would prefer to pay the €50 rather than risk anything happening in future but cannot find a way to do so.

Has anyone else actually managed to pay one of these fines and if so how did you do it?

Be wary

It is known that from time time such invoices could be a scam, especially where one has been driving a hire car.

Would suggest that before paying you have a word with their Embassy to see if the ticket is genuine.

If its a scam it could well cost you more than €50. Once they have your credit card details who knows how much they would take from you.

Be very careful.

Does the translated website have a "Contact" box to click on? If so, contact them in English or Google translated Spanish and say that you want to pay and can they help. I had something similar with a German fine - they sent a translation, photos of me at the wheel and I paid up. As you say, avoid possible hassle in the future!

How did they get your address to send the forms to from Germany my SIL works for the dept that processes these and they are under strict instructions that if they cannot read the licence plate, regonise the driver.or is a RHD vehicle then they have to bin it.It is different if the offence occurs in a German registered rent a car then the rental company will chase you but a UK registered car than you can forget it.

If you received a ticket and it was a UK registered vehicle then I would think you have been scammed from somebody inside Flemsburg making a few bob on the side.

Flensburg has nothing to do with fines - it is only the points store. The local police deal with fines.

Don,t be pedantic it was togue in cheek about Flemsburg.

I will explain in simple language if someone in Flemsburg or any other city, town village has a contact in the local office then they can work together if someone is in Flemsburg they have contacts all over Germany is that simple enough.

I thought these things had to be in the language of the person being chased. If they've found you, then they know you're British and should deal with you in English.

I am fairly sure it is not a scam. The ticket incorporated a photo of the car clealry taken by a speed camera and the web site is a part of the Catalan regional government site.

My difficulty is that the payment link does not work (another reason to suggest it is genuine - it is the one thing a scammer would get right!). Has anyone successfully paid a Catalan fine?

How did they get your name and address legally unless it was a hire car from that country, the reason the payment link will not work is because the network provider knows its a scam IP address and blocks it.If you could pay it by email then your bank account would be empty in 30secs after the transaction.

A valid and excellent point Collos!

How did they get your name and address? Simple - they made use of EU Directive 2011/82/EU "facilitating the cross-border exchange of information on road safety related traffic offences".

Have you any idea how much this process would have cost Spain in relation to a speeding ticket.

No, I have no idea but clearly less than €50. Why the need for personal insults, anyway?

(Gratuitous insult in the post above deleted. Thanks for reporting it.)
