Citroen Berlingo Multispace - category c do i need to get it repaired? - thomas9

Hi

A car bumped into another car which then shunted forward into my car whilst i was waiting at the traffic lights. The person who caused this accident has admitted full liabability.

It is just light crease damage on an internal floor and side panel and no damage to the outside of the car and they categorised it as C due to the cost of the repair.

The garage engineer said it is driveable

I was thinking of selling the car before the bump and still want to sell it, the question is does it have to be repaired?

Apparently it needs a VIC check and new MOT, but could i get these two and sell it on without actually getting the crease repaired due to the fact that it is not deemed unroadworthy, i would sell it with full explanation of its category status, the car is 9 years old and only has 54k miles so it would last someone probably another 5 years motoring and ideal for someone who is going to run it into the ground, so to speak

thanks

1) Agree the price (plus you keeping the car) with the 3rd party insurer.

2) Check your insurer will cover your car as a CAT"c" - some insurers do not cover write-offs

3) Get a VIC Check and new MoT

4) You can now sell the car but the buyer has to be told it is a write-off if he/she asks. BUT you do not need to tell them unless asked!

Hi

thank you for your reply, i very much appreciate it

I would tell the buyer about the cars history even he or she does not ask, i think its best to be honest,

my question is,

if the car is driveable and roadworthy, does the internal crease damage have to be repaired, is this a legal requirement or part of the VIC criteria? or can it be left as it is

thanks

As I understand it, the Vehicle Identity Check (VIC) is just to establish that the car hasn't been rebuilt from several crashed donors or indeed that the identity hasn't been transferred to a different vehicle altogether.
