Why did the brake discs wear out before the pads on a 2009 Ka Zetec at 25000 miles

Modern discs are designed to wear at a similar rate to pads, rather than simply using the pad as sacrificial material. Rust can accelerate the wear on the disc so that it wears out faster than the pads.

Because the use of asbestos in the pads is illegal, the discs are made of a softer material to give the same feel-discs are usually no more expensive(sometimes cheaper)than the pads and are as quick(or quicker) to change. Not just KA-all vehicles.

Not correct. Since the banning of asbestos pads have contained more metal particles to give good friction properties and because of this they are generally more abrasive and wear the discs quicker.

But disks are not expensive, the last set I bought cost the the same as the pads.

I would guess that you keep the car outside and that it is not used every day. Corrosion will be your particular enemy.

Did you examine the discs or did you take somebodies word for the problem.

What about the front discs are these still the originals.
